Clinical Laboratory Science - Bachelor/Master of Science
Back to topThe BS in Clinical Laboratory Sciences program is designed for individuals who have completed approximately two years (60 semester, 90 quarter hours) of pre-professional college coursework at a college associated with Rush University or at any accredited university, college or community college. The pre-professional program includes general education coursework, plus courses in biology, chemistry and mathematics. Graduates of the program receive a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Clinical Laboratory Sciences from Rush University, and are eligible to take the national certifying examinations in medical technology and clinical laboratory science.
The MS in Clinical Laboratory Sciences program is designed for those individuals whose baccalaureate degree is in a field other than clinical laboratory sciences or medical technology and who have completed specified undergraduate courses in chemistry, biology and mathematics. Graduates achieve entry-level competency in laboratory sciences, as well as acquire additional, graduate-level skills in problem solving, management, communication and laboratory informatics. All MS students are required to perform project level research.
Health Care Ethics - Master of Arts
Back to topThe Master of Arts in Health Care Ethics combines the internet courses of the Certificate of Graduate Study in Health Care Ethics with courses in medical sociology, health economics, health care organizations and health law. This provides students with a more comprehensive experience in the context of ethics in the health care environment. Regular rounding and consultation in health care ethics are significant parts of the experience. The program is designed for those who want to complement their professional training (chaplains, lawyers, nurses, administrators and physicians) with work in ethics. The program currently requires some time in residence, but may be completed on a part-time basis.
Perfusion Technology - Bachelor/Master of Science
Back to topThe Department of Perfusion Technology offers both Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in perfusion technology. The curriculum in perfusion technology combines rigorous scientific study with diverse clinical experience. Perfusion technology students take courses in anatomy, physiology, pathology and pharmacology. The clinical experience includes participation in adult and pediatric open heart procedures at Rush University Medical Center and at affiliated hospitals. Faculty include experienced, board certified perfusion technologists and cardiovascular and transplant surgeons, in addition to specialists from anesthesia, nursing, medical technology and other related health professions. A unique feature of the Master's program is the emphasis on management techniques as they relate to the administration of the hospital perfusion department.
Graduates will be qualified to sit for the certification examination of the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.
Respiratory Care - Bachelor/Master of Science
Back to topNew for Fall 2009!

The BS in Respiratory Care program is designed for individuals who have completed approximately two years (60 semester, 90 quarter hours) of pre-professional college coursework at any accredited university, college or community college.
The MS in Respiratory Therapy is a rigorous program of scientific study combined with diverse clinical experience. It is an ideal program for those who hold a Bachelor's degree and are ready for graduate study.
Both programs prepare students to take national board examinations for certification as entry-level respiratory therapists and to become registered as advanced-level respiratory therapists. Graduates will also be prepared to deliver respiratory care in hospitals, in the home, rehabilitation agencies, nursing homes, outpatient clinics and physician offices.
Vascular Ultrasound - Bachelor of Science
Back to topToday more vascular sonographers are being trained in formal educational programs such as this one due to the persistent demand for qualified individuals and the expanse of techniques to be mastered. Although many prospective students may have education and/or experience in another health care area, previous experience in the medical field is not a requirement to enter this program.
This 21-month program includes nine months (three quarters) of classroom and laboratory coursework taught by experienced practitioner/teachers in the field and one year (four quarters) working with registered vascular technologists at accredited vascular laboratories.
The Vascular Ultrasound program is designed for individuals who have completed approximately two years (60 semester, 90 quarter hours) of pre-professional college coursework at a college associated with Rush University or at any accredited university, college or community college.
