Dental Assisting - Diploma
In the dental assisting program you will gain knowledge of the
basic dental sciences, proficiency in laboratory and clinical
skills, and practical experience involving specialized skills.
You will obtain hands-on experience in a laboratory setting using
major equipment such as amalgamators, dental units and chairs,
model trimmers, oral evacuation equipment, oxygen tanks, personal
computers, ultrasonic units and X-ray units.
You will also be trained in valuable clinical, radiographic, and
administrative procedures, leading to career opportunities with
dental offices, dental supply manufacturers, hospital dental
departments and insurance companies.
Successful completion of the dental assisting program is
acknowledged with a diploma, a Radiation Safety Certificate, and
verification of coronal polish completion.

The Medical Office Assistant Diploma program will prepare
graduates to function as bookkeepers, secretaries/receptionists,
and insurance clerks. Students learn the meaning of various
medical word elements (roots, prefixes, and suffixes) and learn
to combine them in order to understand numerous medical terms
used in the profession. Students study the structure of the human
body and its parts including relationships, functions, and
disease processes of the skeletal, muscular, nervous and
reproductive systems. Medical ethics are discussed as they relate
to various issues in today's medical environment. Students are
also introduced to the administrative functions of the medical
office or clinic. Medical reports will be transcribed from
individual case studies, each of which relates to a patient with
a specific medical problem. Important computer and keyboarding
skills are presented to the students and taught in a hands-on
learning environment.
Medical Assistant - Associate of Applied Science

The Associate of Applied Science in Medical Assisting provides
the medical and administrative education which enables medical
assistants to perform such functions as receiving patients,
processing insurance claims, billing and collecting fees, and
arranging for laboratory or x-ray procedures. Medical assistants
also prepare patients for examinations and treatments, which
includes taking vital signs, giving medications, sterilizing
instruments, performing EKG's, CBC's, urinalysis, pregnancy
tests, and other clinical and laboratory tests and procedures.
Students study the structure of the human body and its parts
including relationships, functions and disease processes of the
skeletal, muscular, nervous, cardiovascular and reproductive
systems. Important communication skills are taught to ensure
effective interaction with physicians, patients, family members
and other health care professionals. Students experience hands-on
learning in a clinical lab, which is designed for students to
acquire and practice the skills they have learned. Introduction
to the administrative functions of the medical office or clinic
will also be covered. Emphasis is placed on communication,
scheduling and medical records. Everest College's medical
assistant program is the only AAMA accredited program in
Missouri.
