Both full- and part-time students can now get EMT training because our flexible scheduling allows you to complete your degree while working. Students in this program may be either new to the field or experienced as an EMT-Cardiac Technician.
Graduates of the Emergency Medical Technology - Paramedic program will be prepared to sit for national registry certification as a paramedic. As a paramedic, graduates will provide basic and advanced emergency pre-hospital care and join the ranks of pre-hospital emergency care providers as a key component of the emergency medical services system.
Paramedics rapidly assess and administer both basic and advanced life support care in a number of environments. Employment opportunities in emergency medical services are excellent and projected to remain so well into the future. The paramedic aspect of the program is designed to give students the knowledge, skills and experience to provide a high level of life-saving emergency medical care to those that are sick or injured in a variety of urban and rural health care settings.

Our program exceeds the standards and curriculum established by the US Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration and is fully accredited by the Virginia Department of Health. Graduates will qualify to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians' paramedic examination, which is required for paramedic certification in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Day and night classes starting four times a year are offered for this program with small class sizes and a diverse faculty that actively participates in multiple facets of the EMS system. This makes National College's EMS programs unique among those in the Commonwealth and ideal for the varying needs of today's student.
Graduates of the Emergency Medical Technology Diploma program will be prepared to sit for Virginia and national registry certification exams. Students who have no training or background in pre-hospital care will be prepared to sit for Virginia and National Registry certification as an EMT-Basic. As an EMT-Basic, graduates will provide pre-hospital care at a basic emergency services level.
EMT-Basic Certification
The first course in the Emergency Medical Technology program prepares students to take the EMT-B (basic) certification. Upon successful completion of the Rescue Operations course, the student will be eligible to take the certification exams in Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVOC) and Hazardous Materials Operations, both of which are granted in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Fire Programs.

The bachelor's degree program in health care management will prepare graduates for department manager positions in health care organizations such as clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, urgent care centers and large medical practices. The curriculum includes solid foundations in principles of health information technology, health care management and operations, business management and accounting, and health care law and ethics.
Candidates for the Bachelor of Business Administration in Health Care Management must possess an appropriate associate's degree in a related health care field. Students must also complete a 120-hour directed practicum in their final term.

The medical assisting program prepares graduates for a wide degree of day-to-day challenges. Courses in this program include: Clinical Medical Assisting, Medical Terminology, Hematology and Serology, Urinalysis and Microbiology and Pharmacology.
In addition to the principal course of study, students in this program will receive a background in computers, business organization and administrative medical assisting. This program gives the graduate the training that is necessary to enter many diverse medical settings such as: doctor's offices, insurance companies, hospitals, legal offices, laboratories and medical research firms.

The Medical Billing & Coding graduate may perform many of the billing and coding duties of the medical office including accurately coding medical conditions and services, adhering to insurance plan rules and regulations and operating a medical billing program. Graduates may be employed in physician's offices, clinics, medical service bureaus, insurance companies or managed care plans.

The field of Medical Transcription is one of the fastest growing in the health care area. This diploma course offers a short, intensive study of both terminology and transcription technique and is designed to provide the transcriptionist with the training and education most requested by the medical profession. Medical Transcriptionists typically work in hospitals, clinics, physician offices, transcription services, insurance companies and home health care agencies. With experience, they may become independent contractors or subcontractors, particularly with certification.
The classes in this program can prepare you to successfully complete the Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) examination.

The pharmacy technician program is designed to prepare students to support and assist licensed pharmacists with ordering, stocking and packaging prescription and over-the-counter medications. Other duties may include inventory control, maintaining records, preparing labels and processing insurance claims.
