Medical Assisting - Associate's DegreeBack to topThe medical assisting program prepares graduates for a wide degree of day-to-day challenges. Courses in this program include: Clinical Medical Assisting, Medical Terminology, Hematology and Serology, Urinalysis and Microbiology and Pharmacology.
In addition to the principal course of study, students in this program will receive a background in computers, business organization and administrative medical assisting. This program gives the graduate the training that is necessary to enter many diverse medical settings such as: doctor's offices, insurance companies, hospitals, legal offices, laboratories and medical research firms. The medical assisting program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon recommendation of the Curriculum Review Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants Endowment (CRB-AAMAE). Check with your campus for accreditation status or contact CAAHEP at 35 E Wacker Dr., Chicago, IL, 60601. All graduates are able to sit for the Certified Medical Assistant exam upon graduation. Many of our campuses are certified testing centers. Surgical Technology - Associate's DegreeBack to topStudents will gain a thorough knowledge of the principles of patient preparation and care, surgical preparation and procedures, operative technique, use of surgical instruments and equipment, and principles of asepsis (sterilization). Upon graduation, students will have learned to apply knowledge appropriately, received extensive clinical experience in "scrubbing" and "circulating," and will be prepared to assume the full range of responsibilities associated with the profession. Surgical Technologists assist in surgical operations as a member of an operating room team under the supervision of a surgeon, registered nurse, or other medical personnel. As a surgical technologist, you can expect to be involved in all stages of the surgical process, including operating room preparation, patient transport and preparation, assisting during the surgery itself, and cleaning of the operating room after the surgery. Medical Billing & Coding - DiplomaBack to topThe medical billing and coding graduate may perform many of the billing and coding duties of the medical office including accurately coding medical conditions and services, adhering to insurance plan rules and regulations and operating a medical billing program. Graduates may be employed in physician's offices, clinics, medical service bureaus, insurance companies or managed care plans. Medical Office Assistant - DiplomaBack to topFor the student desiring to enter the administrative support field in health care, this program provides the necessary office support skills as well as basic medical terminology and procedures. Graduates can pursue additional study in the medical office specialist program or the administrative office professional program for further career enhancement. Medical Office Specialist - DiplomaBack to topA graduate from the medical office specialist program has acquired the skills necessary to greet patients, do medical accounting, correspond, file, maintain schedules, organize paperwork, schedule patients and manage the day-to-day operations of a physician's office. In addition to the principle course of study, students in this program will receive a background in computers and business math. Pharmacy Technician - DiplomaBack to topThe pharmacy technician program is designed to prepare students to support and assist licensed pharmacists with ordering, stocking and packaging prescription and over-the-counter medications. Other duties may include inventory control, maintaining records, preparing labels and processing insurance claims. Phlebotomy - DiplomaBack to topThe Phlebotomy Diploma program provides hands-on training in collection, transportation, handling and processing of blood specimens for analysis. The phlebotomy program also trains students to adhere to infection control and safety policies and procedures; interact with other laboratory and health care personnel; and demonstrate an understanding of laboratory requisitions and their legal implication within the work environment. Certified phlebotomy technicians can find employment in hospitals, clinics, reference laboratories, doctor's offices, some home health agencies and portable insurance carriers.
