Medical Programs

Secure industries are a rare thing these days, but with the American population curve aging, the demand for qualified medical practitioners has never been higher. At Southwest Florida College, our medical programs will give you the tools to remain in a high-paying career for many years to come.

Our campus labs feature quality facilities designed to emulate the modern medical office. This ensures that you will emerge from our programs with useful knowledge to make the transition to a challenging career within the medical industry easily and confidently. In our labs you will find modern computers, equipment and reference texts and training given by skilled educators and practitioners.

Health Care Administration - Bachelor's

The bachelor's degree in Health Care Administration will provide students with a foundation of general management skills in health care and health care services such as: finances, public policy, communication, cultural diversity, and organizational behavior. This interdisciplinary degree will enable the student to seek employment in an entry-level position in health care administration or a management training position.

The Health Care Administration program is also available in an online format.

Health Information Technology - Associate's Degree

The Health Information Technology program prepares graduates to work with applications systems and manage electronic health information databases. Health information management personnel maintain and analyze medical information about patients so it can be used in evaluation and treatment. They organize the data and prepare statistical reports used in studying and planning health care. Health information technology professionals may be involved in ensuring that the design and use of information systems support patient safety. They work with nurses, physicians and other health care providers in a variety of settings such as hospitals, physician practices, long-term-care facilities, home health care agencies, insurance and managed care organizations, government agencies and vendor firms.

This program is offered both on campus and fully online.

Medical Assistant - Diploma or Associate's Degree

Southwest Florida College's Medical Assistant program is designed to expose you to both the administrative and clinical aspects of the modern health care environment. We place emphasis on medical theory and terminology as well as teach you the practices and procedures associated with the operation of a health care facility.

You will also learn in our clinical laboratory classes where you can apply the knowledge you previously studied and further your training in real-world scenarios. When you successfully complete the program, you can pursue entry-level employment as a medical assistant with private physicians, health clinics, hospitals and nursing homes.

Surgical Technician - Associate's Degree

The Surgical Technician program is designed to provide students with an academic and clinical background in the field of surgical technology. The program prepares students for entry-level positions in a number of health care facilities including hospitals, medical centers, and public and private surgical centers.

Medical Billing and Coding Technology - Diploma

Southwest Florida College's Medical Billing and Coding Technology program is designed to provide you with training necessary to prepare you for a position as a medical records coder or employment in medical insurance billing departments within hospitals, medical facilities, private insurance billing firms and other medical support service organizations.

This program can be completed in less than two short years of study. This degree will focus on fundamental medical courses such as anatomy and medical terminology, as well as specialized courses like ICD-9-CM coding and pharmacology.

This program is offered both on campus and fully online.
