Many of our programs include cooperative work or externship experiences; providing students' opportunities to go to school and get the work experience critical in starting careers. An Angley College education is where "Dreams Become Careers!"

Basic X-Ray Machine Operator - Diploma

The Basic X-Ray Machine Operator Diploma Program provides students with skills and training necessary to begin working as an X-Ray Machine Operator. X-Ray technicians operate x-ray equipment to help physicians, dentists, and other health professionals treat and diagnose patients. The Basic X-Ray Machine Operator course qualifies for Florida approval to take the ARRT certification examination.

Employment of x-ray technicians continues to increase as more patients enter the health care system. As a result of population growth and aging, the field is expected to increase by about 15 percent from 2006 to 2016.

Most X-Ray Machine Operators work in hospitals, but a number of new jobs will be found in the offices of physicians and diagnostic imaging centers. Health facilities such as these are expected to become more common, because of the shift toward outpatient care, made possible by technological advances which have permitted more procedures to be performed outside of a hospital environment.

Job Responsibilities

X-Ray Machine Operators produce x-ray films (radiographs) of parts of the human body for use in diagnosing medical ailments. They prepare patients for radiologic examinations by explaining the procedure, removing jewelry and other articles through which x-rays cannot pass, and positioning patients so that the parts of the body can be appropriately documented. Using instruments similar to a measuring tape, they may measure the thickness of the section to be imaged and set controls on the x-ray machine to produce radiographs of the appropriate density, detail, and contrast.

Candidates for this course of study will receive training in basic anatomy, use of medical X-ray equipment, general patient care, and proper techniques to effectively position patients who are in need of medical x-ray services.
