The School of Health Sciences and Practice and Institute of Public Health provides students with the following:

A Wide Range of Accredited Graduate Programs

The School of Health Sciences and Practice and Institute of Public Health is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). The school offers the following on-campus programs:

  • 46-credit Master of Public Health (MPH) in three disciplines
  • Five graduate certificates
  • Dual degree (MD/MPH)
  • Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) in Health Policy and Management
  • Nationally recognized Doctor of Physical Therapy
  • Medically-oriented Speech-Language Pathology Master of Science

Accommodating Class Schedule

A large majority of our 500 students are part-time. Only our physical therapy and speech-language pathology programs are full-time, day programs. On-campus classes for the MPH and graduate certificates are offered in the late afternoons, evenings and on weekends.

The following programs are offered online.

  • MPH in Health Policy and Management
  • Graduate Certificate in Emergency Preparedness
  • Graduate Certificate in Industrial Hygiene

A Student Body of Health Care Professionals

Many of our students are physicians, nurses and other clinicians, health administrators, analysts and researchers. They work in public health departments, hospitals and other health care organizations, private practices, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, community and government agencies, and insurance companies.

Collaboration with the Community

Our collaborative efforts with the county health departments in this region and with other county and community organizations continue to grow with special focus on immigrant health issues and emergency public health preparedness. A Center for Disaster Medicine has been established within the School of Health Sciences and Practice and Institute of Public Health. As the sole school of public health within the Hudson Valley, we have an important educational leadership responsibility within our region, and we take this responsibility seriously.

Master in Public Health - Health Policy and Management (Online)

The online courses leading to a Master in Public Health in Health Policy and Management are designed to provide the student with an understanding of the business, programmatic, planning and policy areas of health care. The program prepares students for careers in a wide range of health services and research settings. Faculty have extensive education and experience in the health field. Among them are health care lawyers, executives, researchers, planners, consultants, physicians, nurses and other professionals who have held leadership positions in health and health-related enterprises and government.

The rich learning environment of the online experience features tutorials and courses with exercises, discussions, readings, projects, collaborative assignments, and faculty interaction and guidance. Communication is ongoing via email, bulletin boards, and group conference rooms. There are many services available to online students including academic advising, library facilities, textbooks, and more. Courses may be taken totally online (no residency requirement) with the option to take courses on-campus, and follow the standard academic calendar and are offered in fall, spring and summer.
