Dental Assisting - Diploma

The objective of the dental assistant program is to train students to acquire satisfactory skills and demonstrate competence in a variety of dental office procedures and laboratory techniques. Dental assistants work closely with, and under the supervision of, dentists and perform a variety of patient care, office and laboratory duties.

At Fortis College, you will be provided with hands-on strategies and techniques to work in the treatment or operation room directly with the dentist. Dental assistants can work in private and group dental practices, mobile dental units, insurance companies, hospitals, nursing homes, dental school clinics and public/private health facilities. Students enrolled in the dental assistant program are required to participate in live patient dental screening/radiography clinics. These clinics are conducted under the direct supervision of a board-licensed dentist.

Emergency Medical Services - Associate's

The EMS major combines emergency medical technician and paramedics courses, including clinical externships in hospitals, ambulance services and fire rescue services. Graduates are prepared with the knowledge, skills and professionalism necessary to obtain certification as an emergency medical technician and paramedic to practice the art and science of out-of-hospital medicine in conjunction with medical direction. Curriculum is provided by the United States government. Additional training in biological, chemical and hazardous materials is included.

Medical Assisting - Diploma

The demand for medical assistants is growing at an exceptional rate and doctors are increasingly relying on medical assistants to help with various patient care needs. The Fortis College medical assistant program provides students with an excellent educational experience in performing both clinical and administrative tasks as well as personal interaction with patients and doctors.

The objective of the medical assisting program is to train students to acquire satisfactory skills and demonstrate competency in a variety of medical office procedures and laboratory techniques under the direction supervision of a physician.

Medical Billing and Coding - Diploma

Considering the growing population and the needs of a society that is living longer, this is an excellent occupational choice. In fact, this career field is expected to grow faster than average, which means opportunities abound in hospitals, clinics, doctors' offices, laboratories, facilities for the aging, and many other places.

Practical Nursing - Diploma

The Practical Nursing program at Fortis College provides the theory, laboratory and clinical experiences to prepare the student for an entry-level position in Practical Nursing. Nursing theory guides clinical practice. The clinical portion of the program provides students with hands-on experience; providing nursing care to patients of all ages, ethnic and cultural groups, and stages of wellness/illness in hospitals and other health care agencies affiliated with Fortis College. In addition, the clinical atmosphere will enable the student to observe first-hand the behaviors that are crucial to employability in those agencies.

Respiratory Care - Associate's

The Respiratory Care program at Fortis College provides students with a quality education and prepares the graduate for a career as an advanced-level Respiratory Therapist. The program is an advance level program designed to develop the knowledge, skills, and behavior to become a Respiratory Therapist and function as an advanced level practitioner in the field of Respiratory Care. Respiratory Care, also called Respiratory Therapy, is a specialized discipline in the medical field that deals with the evaluation, diagnosis, and care of patients with disorders of or affecting the function of the lungs.
