Intra Oral Dental Assistant

This diploma program is both comprehensive and intensive. The
Level I components of the program train individuals in a broad
range of clinical and laboratory skills. In their assisting role
with a dentist, they may prepare the treatment rooms; sterilize,
disinfect and transfer dental instruments; assist with the
suctioning apparatus; and prepare dental materials.
Administrative training includes basic manual and computerized
office procedures such as bookkeeping and appointment control -
equipping the graduate with skills to contribute in all areas of
a dental office.
Under the direction of a dentist, graduates may take and process
radiographs; polish teeth; apply fluoride treatments; instruct
clients in oral hygiene; place pit and fissure sealants; apply
topical anesthetic; apply desensitizing agents; polish
restorations; oral irrigation; apply over-the-counter whitening
agents; or take preliminary impressions for study casts.

The rehabilitation therapy assistant program has been designed to
formally train individuals to work in partnership with, and under
the direction of, physiotherapists, occupational therapists
and/or recreational therapists.
The primary goal is to provide learning opportunities which
promote basic knowledge, skills, values and behaviors that will
enable the graduate to implement delegated tasks under
supervision and direction, within a variety of health care and
community settings.
Physiotherapists or occupational therapists may be found in such
settings as hospitals; physiotherapy clinics; long-term care
facilities/homes for the aged; sports medicine clinics; sports
and training organizations; health care and fitness spas and
clinics; public health services; adult day care centers/group
homes; recreational therapy facilities; wellness centers; clinics
offering chiropractic, homeopathic and naturopathic care; and
facilities offering prosthetic services.

The goal of this career program is to help individuals master the
required personal and occupational qualities needed to care for
people living at home and in long-term care facilities. Students
will learn to identify and respond to the physical and emotional
needs of clients/residents. Promoting physical and mental
activation, observing and communicating with the client, handling
specialized equipment, providing personal and physical care are
all basic skills which will be developed throughout this program.
