Radiologic Technologist - Associate of Applied Science

The Radiology Technology program is designed to give the student the skills for an entry level position as a Radiologic Technologist. Radiologic Technologists take x-rays and administer nonradioactive materials into patients' bloodstreams for diagnostic purposes. After positioning the patient, they produce x-ray films (called radiographs) of parts of the human body for use in diagnosing medical problems. They prepare the patient by explaining the procedure, removing jewelry and other items that block x-rays, positioning the patient and imaging equipment into the optimal position to get the best image, and placing radiation protection devices to limit the patient's exposure.

Surgical Technologist - Diploma

The Surgical Technology program is designed to instruct in all phases of surgical technology. Upon completion, the graduate can effectively work as a Surgical Technologist, with and under the supervision of surgeons or registered nurses and become an integral part of the team providing care to patients during the crucial periods of surgery. Much of the training is focused on the clinical aspect of the program, where the students gain skills in helping to set up the operating room; preparing patients for surgery; learning to scrub, gown and glove self and other team members; passing instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons; helping care for and dispose of specimens; and assisting nurses in cleaning and stocking the operating room for the next operation.
