The University of Illinois Patient Safety Leadership program will provide health care professionals the education and training necessary to improve the quality of medical care. In 2000, the Institute of Medicine issued a report on the lack of understanding and practice of patient safety methods by health professionals in the United States. In a proactive response to such reports and statistics about health care trends, the Patient Safety Leadership program endeavors to break the cycle of medical error and improve the safety of patients who participate in the health care system through education, leadership training and evidence-based course objectives.
