Biotechnology - Associate of Science

Biotechnology is a new and exciting area of scientific research that focuses on genetic engineering/recombinant DNA technology and is currently on the forefront of scientific research. The field of biotechnology is growing rapidly and due to the commercialization of new products and there is an increased need for highly skilled personnel capable of working in both research and production areas. Our Port St. Lucie campus is located near a growing hub of Florida biotechnology companies.

This Keiser University program emphasizes a wide range of courses in the biological sciences such as molecular biology, genetics and microbiology while providing you with the required laboratory skills at the forefront of modern research technology. You will work closely with faculty and develop laboratory skills including biological-molecules purification, spectrophotometry, centrifugation, biological-computation technique, gene splicing and cell culture. Graduates are prepared as biotechnologists who will have opportunities for employment in biomedical research companies, drug production in pharmaceutical industries, marine biology research and agricultural genetic engineering research.

Health Services Administration - Associate of Arts

This program of study will prepare students for entry-level employment positions such as: physicians' office managers, assistant managers of physicians' offices, supervisors in health care organizations, and other related administrative assignments in the health services environment. This program will enhance employment and promotion potential in health services organizations and industries and transfer to 4-year degree programs.

Massage Therapy - Associate of Science

The massage therapy program provides instruction in therapeutic massage with knowledge of the structure and function of the human body. Students receive training in hydrotherapy, massage law, the prevention of medical errors and allied modalities. Graduates will be prepared for employment as a massage therapist.

Medical Assisting - Associate of Science

A medical assistant is a professional multi-skilled person who assists a physician. This person performs duties under the direction of a physician in all areas of medical practice. Patient care management includes preparing treatment and examination rooms, taking vital signs, possible assisting in minor surgical procedures, giving injections, venipuncture, assisting in laboratory operations and taking X-Rays and electrocardiograms. In addition to the clinical aspects, a medical assistant's function in an administrative capacity includes maintaining patient records, billing, scheduling appointments, ordering supplies and handling insurance claims.

Radiologic Technology - Associate of Science

Keiser University's Associate of Science degree in Radiologic Technology prepares students for entry-level positions in the profession, producing radiographic images in accordance with standardized practices and procedures. The program provides radiologic information including medical terminology, patient care, radiographic procedures, radiation protection, equipment operations and image production and evaluation.

Sports Medicine & Fitness Technology - Associate of Science

Keiser University's degree in sports medicine and fitness technology focuses on entry-level health and fitness assessment, prescription and lifestyle modification. The program provides a basic understanding of health risk factors, physiological adaptations to exercise, injury prevention, care and therapies, as well as addressing all components of activity as related to sports and exercise. The program objectives designed to meet Keiser University's mission and objectives are as follows:

• To develop a student's ability to apply health and fitness assessments in the development, monitoring and motivation of individuals with exercise prescriptions.
• To prepare students to properly conduct and monitor an exercise session.
• To assist students in understanding health risk factors, physiological adaptations to exercise and psychological factors associated with fitness and exercise programs.
• To assist students in understanding and applying basic biomechanical principles.

Surgical Technology - Associate of Science

This program provides students with the technical ability, knowledge and skills required for entry-level employment as a member of a health care team in hospitals or surgical center operating rooms. Students receive training in the essentials of health care, surgical instrumentation, anatomy, physiology, medical language and pharmacology. Graduates are prepared for employment as a surgical technologist. A degree is awarded upon successful completion of this program.
