Diagnostic Medical Sonography - Associate of Science

Keiser University's Associate of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography presents an integration of didactic, laboratory and clinical experiences. The program prepares students to function as entry-level diagnostic medical sonographers. Sonographers are highly skilled professionals qualified to provide patient services using diagnostic techniques under the supervision of a licensed doctor of medicine or osteopathy. A medical assistant is a professional multi-skilled person who assists a physician. This person performs duties under the direction of a physician in all areas of medical practice. Patient care management includes preparing treatment and examination rooms, taking vital signs, possible assisting in minor surgical procedures, giving injections, venipuncture, assisting in laboratory operations and taking X-Rays and electrocardiograms. In addition to the clinical aspects, a medical assistant's function in an administrative capacity includes maintaining patient records, billing, scheduling appointments, ordering supplies and handling insurance claims.

Nuclear Medicine Technology - Associate of Science

Keiser University's Associate of Science degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology instructs students in the use of radioactive material to visualize, diagnose and treat pathology through proper utilization of specialized equipment and techniques. The program prepares students to attend patients, extract and evaluate data from patient records, perform dose calculations, prepare radiopharmaceuticals, perform in-vivo and in-vitro diagnostic studies, and perform related quality control and quality assurance procedures. Courses include radiation safety, storage and disposal of radioactive materials and inventory and control of radiopharmacology. The program provides entry-level lectures in positron imaging tomography (PET). Graduates are eligible to sit for certification examinations given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-N) and the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).

The practice of professional nursing means the performance of those acts requiring substantial specialized knowledge, judgment and nursing skill based upon applied principles of biological, physical, psychological and social sciences.

The Keiser University nursing program is designed to prepare graduates who are:

Occupational Therapy Assistant - Associate of Science

Certified occupational therapy assistants work under the supervision of a registered occupational therapists to facilitate the learning of skills that restore, reinforce and enhance performance and quality of life of a patient/client. Patients may have physical, psychosocial or cognitive impairments which may result from developmental deficits, the aging process, physical injury, illness or psychological and social disabilities. Occupational therapy is the use of self-care, work and play activities to increase independent function and performance, enhance development, diminish or prevent disability and to achieve and maintain a state of health and wellness. Certified occupational therapy assistants may be found practicing in acute care and psychiatric hospitals, rehabilitation centers, skilled nursing facilities, neonatology units, public preschool, elementary and high schools, prison systems, social service agencies and wellness centers. Additionally, certified occupational therapy assistants may practice in industrial injury clinics, sheltered workshops, home-health programs, hand clinics and geriatric day care centers. Graduates of this Keiser University program will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). After successful completion of this examination, the individual will be a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) and will be eligible for licensure in the State of Florida.

Radiologic Technology - Associate of Science

Radiologic technologists are important members of the health care team. This is the entry-level position in the radiologic technology career ladder. Radiologic technologists take x-rays according to standardized practices and procedures. Keiser University's AS in Radiologic Technology program is designed to provide instruction to prepare qualified students in the routine general and fluoroscopic procedures, special procedures and in the use of specialized equipment and techniques. Graduates will be qualified to take the registry examination of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. The graduate will also be eligible for the State of Florida licensure in radiologic technology.
