Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences

Completed entirely at a distance

Start ahead by transferring in 20-32 of your health sciences credits-and up to 60 credits in general education. Finish your degree at a distance with Excelsior College Online Courses, Excelsior College Examinations, and other approved credit sources. Concentrations in management, health education, gerontology, or end of life care.

Course terms start every two months, so you can begin almost any time.

Who Are Good Candidates?

Others who are good candidates for this program include associate degree graduates, individuals ultimately pursuing a master's degree, and those in the military as military training may be applied toward degree requirements.

Admission into the baccalaureate degree program requires a minimum of 20 credit hours in a health science field, such as mortuary science, dental hygiene, nutrition, to name a few. Students may apply and enroll online. Students that are enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences will have access to the Excelsior College Bookstore, the Electronic Peer Network for online discussions, financial aid services, technical support for technology related questions, and an academic advisor for assistance in program planning.

The total program consists of 120 credit hours as follows:

• 60 credits in general education
• 60 credits in health sciences courses (including 9 credits in one of four concentrations)

Certificate in End of Life Care

This 12-credit End of Life Care Certificate equips current and aspiring health care professionals with the skills to provide more effective quality care. The program's courses cover the following topics:

• basic principles and concepts
• therapeutic communication
• self-care strategies
• the dying and bereavement process
• coping strategies for patients and families
• symptom management
• case management

This flexible certificate program is designed to fit each student's unique life circumstances. Students can complete the entire program in one year. Each 15-week course is delivered entirely online, empowering busy working health care professionals to complete the coursework according to their schedule and successfully balance the demands of work, school, and family.

Certificate in Health Care Informatics

If you're interested in improving the delivery of health care through information technology, Excelsior College's Certificate Program in Health Care Informatics can help you reach that goal.

Designed by nationally renowned experts in informatics, this 17-credit program engages students in a rigorous course of study. At its core is the Informatics Project, which allows you to apply informatics concepts to your particular health care discipline. You'll have access to faculty, learning resources, and other students while completing the program at a distance in your home community. Students who successfully complete the program earn 12 credits toward our Master of Science in nursing (Clinical Systems Management) degree, making it more efficient to complete both programs.

The Health Care Informatics Certificate program is open to any health care professional with a bachelor's degree.

Certificate in Health Care Management

Whether you are a manager or aspiring to become one, this innovative online program provides the necessary resources to help you achieve your goal. If you have already proven yourself as an outstanding health care provider, but do not have the formal management preparation to excel in this demanding role, Excelsior College's distance education program allows you to attain the knowledge and training you need while meeting the needs of work and family, too.

This 14-month certificate program, developed under a Congressional award through the U.S. Department of Education, helps you acquire the skills you need to excel as a manager in today's demanding health care environment. From budgeting and finance to human resources and ethics, the program's five credit-bearing courses give students a complete framework of knowledge about the field.
