They work side-by-side with both physicians and professional medical personnel in private practice, clinics, medical research laboratories and hospitals. Medical Billing & Coding - DiplomaBack to topMedical billing and coding focuses on the fundamentals of medical office protocol with specialized training in the areas you will need for a job in this growing field. As a Virginia College student, you'll be prepared for entry-level positions in the medical field related to reimbursement procedures. You'll learn the fundamentals of medical office protocol and get specialized training in Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), International Classification of Diseases (ICD), and the Health Care Financing Administration Common Procedural Coding System (HCPCS). In addition to your classroom experiences, you will also serve an externship for on-the-job training. You'll be supervised by a physician, nurse or health services professional and learn the billing and coding process from the working perspective. Medical Office Management - Associate'sBack to topMedical office administrators perform both administrative and clinical duties, reporting directly to an office manager, physician or other health practitioner. Students learn to work closely with doctors and other support personnel as well as how to use medical terminology, medical office procedures and insurance coding to prepare for a career in this growing, specialized field. Pharmacy Technician - DiplomaBack to topPharmacy technicians work with licensed pharmacists, helping with patient consultations, counter dispensing operations and prescription preparation. In hospitals, you could perform many of the same duties but have other responsibilities, including assembling medications for each patient, repackaging medications, preparing commercially-unavailable medications and delivering medications to patient rooms.
