MS in Speech-Language Pathology

The graduate program in speech-language pathology is dedicated to the education and development of superior professionals prepared for careers as speech-language pathologists. These programs, accredited by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) are designed to challenge pre-professionals academically, clinically and personally, and lead to licensure eligibility.

The Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology is a two-year full time program that requires the successful completion of 36 credit-hours of academic coursework and nine hours of clinical training including a minimum of 400 practicum hours. Students are provided with supervised clinical experiences matched to their level of clinical expertise. The program offers the clinical practice experience starting with the Loyola College clinical settings that are supervised by the clinical/academic faculty. As students progress, they are placed in a variety of settings to provide a carefully controlled progression of difficulty.

Advanced students may be placed in hospital/school/rehabilitation settings, work with complex clinical problems and/or conduct clinical research with the faculty. Loyola's solid reputation in speech-language pathology is built upon the excellence of its approach to clinical training. Graduates of the degree program are eligible to sit for the comprehensive examinations that lead to the Certificates of Clinical Competence.

Post-Baccalaureate Foundation Program

Prospective students whose undergraduate major or degree is in a field other than speech-language pathology or communication disorders have the opportunity to pursue foundation courses through a one year pre-requisite program. The Post-Baccalaureate Foundation Program includes a lock-step series of eight courses (24 credit-hours) and 25 observation-hours that can be completed in an additional year prior to the Master of Science degree program. Students in this program enjoy all the benefits of Loyola’s top-rate graduate program, including highly-regarded faculty and state-of-the-art facilities.
