The health care assistant/technician program provides students
with a background in general medical areas such as terminology,
anatomy and physiology, and offers a concentration in phlebotomy
and electrocardiography. Students receive training in
venipuncture and skin puncture, various methods of blood
collection and transportation, running electrocardiograms, OSHA
and other health care regulations. Graduates are eligible to sit
for certification exams in phlebotomy technician and ECG and may
seek entry-level employment in physicians' offices, clinics or
laboratories, hospitals, group practices and nursing homes.

The vocational objective of the massage therapy program is to
provide the graduate with a broad business and academic
background that will prepare students for entrepreneurial
pursuits in the spa/healing arts and allied health fields. The
program also teaches students the necessary medical/clinical
skills to perform the duties of a massage therapist.

Medical Assisting - Associate of Occupational Studies

The vocational objective of the medical assisting program is to
prepare graduates to work as a medical assistant in doctors'
offices, hospitals and other medical facilities, performing both
administrative and clinical duties under the supervision of a
licensed health care practitioner. Medical assistant graduates
are eligible to directly challenge the AAMA Certification
Examination for Medical Assistants for the Certified Medical
Assistant (CMA) credential.
Medical Office Assistant – Diploma

The medical office assistant program provides training for an
entry-level career as a member of the health care team and
emphasizes front-office administrative skills. Graduates may
pursue career opportunities in the growing health care industry
in doctors' offices, medical clinics and other health-related
facilities as medical office support personnel, medical
administrative assistants and medical receptionists. Or,
graduates may elect to continue their education to earn the
medical assisting associate's degree that will expand their
skills to include back-office and clinical responsibilities.

The medical office technology program provides training for an
entry-level career in medical office support in computerized
offices. The program emphasizes hands-on experience with
currently popular software programs as well as front-office
medical and business applications and develops traits employers
seek such as the ability to assume responsibility, make decisions
and work independently. Graduates may pursue career opportunities
in business, industry or government as medical administrative
assistants, medical or executive secretaries, and medical office
managers.
Respiratory Therapy - Associate of Occupational Studies

The respiratory therapy program provides students with the background in managing, controlling and treating the problems associated with cardiopulmonary disease. Students acquire knowledge regarding respiratory diseases and other cardiopulmonary disorders and receive training in respiratory care procedures. Graduates admitted to programs holding a Letter of Review from the Commission on Accreditation of Respiratory Care (CoARC) are eligible to sit for the NBRC RRT credentialing examination and may seek entry-level employment in physician offices, clinics, laboratories, hospitals, group practices, specialty practices, health insurance offices and nursing homes.
Surgical Technology - Associate of Occupational Studies

The vocational objective of the surgical technology program is to
prepare graduates to work as surgical technologists in operating
rooms with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses and
other surgical team members. Surgical technologists maintain
asepsis in the operating room, pass instruments and sterile items
and equipment to the surgeon during a procedure, maintain the
sterile field, and prepare instruments, supplies and equipment
before and after an operation.
