Health Care Coding - Diploma

NAU's Health Care Coding Diploma is an excellent career choice if you see yourself working in the in-demand health care field, but not necessarily directly with patients. As a graduate of this program, it will be your job to assemble patients' health information, making sure that patients' initial medical charts are complete, that all forms are completed and properly identified and authenticated, and that all necessary information is input into the computer. Ultimately, the goal is to help consumers gather all of their health information in one place so they can thoroughly understand it and share it securely with their health care providers so they get the care that best fits their individual needs. Upon completion of this program, you will have the opportunity to become a key member of the health care team in a hospital or other medical setting. Should you decide to further your education, this program will transfer seamlessly into NAU's Associate of Applied Science degree in Health Information Technology.

Health Care Management - Bachelor's

The health care management bachelor's degree program is designed to provide working professionals with the necessary skills to become effective managers and leaders in the fast growing health care industry. The admission requirements for this program include a balance of previous education and work experience to assure the student's success in this area of study. Graduates can expect to find career opportunities in management positions within the diverse health care field or within their own area of clinical/professional expertise.

Health Information Technology - Associate's

NAU's Associate of Applied Science degree in Health Information Technology (HIT) is an excellent career choice if you see yourself working in the in-demand health care field, but not necessarily directly with patients. As a graduate of this program, it will be your job to assemble patients' health information, making sure that patients' initial medical charts are complete, that all forms are completed and properly identified and authenticated, and that all necessary information is input into the computer. Ultimately, the goal is to help consumers gather all of their health information in one place so they can thoroughly understand it and share it securely with their health care providers so they get the care that best fits their individual needs. Graduates of the program are eligible to take the examination offered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) to become a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).

Medical Assisting - Associate's

National American University's medical assisting program utilizes a combination of lecture and laboratory sessions, as well as an externship following the completion of the required course work. Medical assistants perform administrative and clinical duties in a physician's office or other outpatient care settings within the scope of specific training and state law, and in accordance with assignments by a physician.

Administrative duties may include patient scheduling, reception duties, medical record management, medical transcription, office correspondence, medical insurance procedures and office accounts, fees and collections.

Medical Administrative Assistant - Associate's

NAU's Associate's in Medical Administrative Assistant degree is designed to prepare students for entry-level administrative positions in a variety of health care settings. Administrative duties may include greeting patients, setting appointment times, scheduling hospital admissions, medical transcription, medical record management, insurance coding and billing, bill collections, office compliance and other general medical office procedures.

Medical Staff Services Management - Associate's

The medical staff services management (MSSM) degree is designed to prepare graduates to work in a hospital or health care facility as a credentialing expert. A certified MSSM is qualified to become an integral part of health care administration, responsible for the following:

• Managing compliance
• Adherence to government bylaws
• Credentialing of staff
• Operations management (staffing, budgets, database administration)
• Continuing education
• Upholding organizational policies, procedures and regulations

The coursework for the MSSM program helps prepare you for the Certified Professional in Medical Services Management or the Certified Professional Credentialing Specialist examinations which are recognized as the standard in the medical services profession and are a symbol of excellence within the industry. Earning these credentials signifies that an individual has demonstrated the knowledge and skills required to perform competently in today's complex medical credentialing environment.
