Occupational Therapy - Entry-Level Master's
Occupational therapy is a rewarding health and rehabilitation profession that offers the practitioner a wide variety of career opportunities. Occupational therapists work in a many different types of clinical and non-clinical environments. Some work environments may be highly medically-oriented such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers, skilled nursing facilities, home-based health care, or outpatient clinics. Other therapists work within community-based organizations such as shelters for the homeless or victims of abuse, prisons, school systems or psychiatrically-oriented group homes. Some occupational therapists specialize in a specific clinical practice.
Some common specialty areas include:
- hand/arm/shoulder rehabilitation
- treatment of school aged children
- early childhood intervention services
- environmental or home modification
- treatment of people with neurological difficulties
- treatment of people with mental health difficulties
- geriatric rehabilitation practice
One of the newest specialty areas is evaluation and rehabilitation of the older driver.
Regardless of the setting in which occupational therapists practice, their goal is to help people to be able to do whatever it is they want and need to do so they can participate fully in life.
