School of Occupational TherapyThe School of Occupational Therapy received an impressive seven-year accreditation in December 2006 from the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE). The faculty boasts exceptional depth and variety of clinical and academic experience. A significant majority of the School's faculty are doctoral-prepared. Occupational Therapy - Entry-Level Master'sBack to topOccupational therapy is a rewarding health and rehabilitation profession that offers the practitioner a wide variety of career opportunities. Occupational therapists work in a many different types of clinical and non-clinical environments. Some work environments may be highly medically-oriented such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers, skilled nursing facilities, home-based health care, or outpatient clinics. Other therapists work within community-based organizations such as shelters for the homeless or victims of abuse, prisons, school systems or psychiatrically-oriented group homes. Regardless of the setting in which occupational therapists practice, their goal is to help people to be able to do whatever it is they want and need to do so they can participate fully in life. Doctor of Physical TherapyBack to top
The entry-level, doctor of physical therapy program is designed to produce an autonomous physical therapy practitioner, who can represent the profession of physical therapy as a member of collaborative teams in education, research, general practice, specialty practice, community service, and professional development. The entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy is an initial preparation professional doctorate. The curriculum will use a format of traditional residential (70%) and on-line (30%) courses. The Plan of Study track is composed of 126 credits taken over 9 semesters (3 calendar years). A student will be expected to take a full-time load of 12-16 credits each semester for the three years. The residential classes will use multi-formats of lecture, discussion, collaborative groups, interactive laboratories, and web-enhanced modules. The online courses will use multiple media such as streamed video, PowerPoint presentations with audio narration, discussion boards, real-time messaging, student collaboration, and incorporation of multiple document formats such as word processing , pdf, HTML, MP3, and graphics. Transitional Doctor of Physical TherapyBack to topThe transitional doctor of physical therapy program is designed to allow physical therapists with a bachelor or masters degree to upgrade their foundational knowledge in physical therapy to the DPT level. It is NOT an advanced studies degree. The curriculum will use an online format for all courses. The Plan of Study is composed of 38 credits. A maximum of 24 credits may be earned through assessment of an applicant's experience and professional development. Applicants wishing to take advantage of this prior learning credit must submit a prior learning portfolio according to instructions provided. An additional fee of $400 is required for the prior learning assessment. Admitted students will be expected to take a minimum of 1 course per term for 2 of 3 terms each year to maintain enrollment as a part-time student.
