Administrative Office Management - Medical - Associate's

Medical office administrators perform both administrative and clinical duties, reporting directly to an office manager, physician or other health practitioner.

Students learn to work closely with doctors and other support personnel as well as how to use medical terminology, medical office procedures and insurance coding to prepare for a career in this growing, specialized field.

Health Services Management - Bachelor's

Now there is an academic program for people who want to complete a health-based interdisciplinary studies Bachelor of Science degree on a full-time or part-time basis, whether it's for initial entry into this exciting field or for advancement in an existing job.

You can choose from an array of daytime and evening courses. Up to 90 credit hours can be transferred. Learn from Virginia College's real-world instructional staff, many of whom work in the field and bring their expertise and unique, practical experience to the classroom. This program prepares you for mid-level management positions in health care organizations including hospitals, physician practices, ambulatory care centers and home health agencies.

Medical Assistant - Diploma

Medical assistants perform both administrative and clinical duties, reporting directly to an office manager, physician or other health practitioner.

Your training will focus on examining room procedures, obtaining vital signs and medical histories, performing routine laboratory procedures, sterilizing and maintaining equipment and the proper techniques for administering medications as directed by the physician. You'll also learn to handle administrative duties.

In addition to training from instructors with real-world experience, you will also complete an externship in a physician's office, clinic or related health care facility under the supervision of a physician, nurse or health services professional.

Medical Billing & Coding: Medical Reimbursement - Diploma

Medical billing and coding focuses on the fundamentals of medical office protocol with specialized training in the areas you will need for a job in this growing field.

As a Virginia College student, you'll be prepared for entry-level positions in the medical field related to reimbursement procedures. You'll learn the fundamentals of medical office protocol and get specialized training in Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and Health Care Financing Administration Common Procedural Coding System (HCPCS).

In addition to your classroom experiences, you will also serve an externship for on-the-job training. You'll be supervised by a physician, nurse or health services professional and learn the billing and coding process from the working perspective.

The Associate of Science in Orthopaedic Technology at Virginia College is an exciting new program designed to prepare you for positions that assist orthopaedic surgeons in the care of sick and disabled persons. Among other things, orthopaedic technologists apply, adjust and remove casts, splints and braces as they work closely with the physicians and other support personnel. In addition, this program will focus on medical terminology, medical office procedures and insurance coding that will prepare you for specialized employment in this vital field.

Pharmacy Technician - Diploma

Ready for a career where you can make a difference? The pharmacy technician program will prepare you for an exciting career, supporting licensed pharmacists by assisting during patient consultation, counter dispensing operations and prescription preparation. You'll learn to stock pharmaceutical inventories, maintain and computerize patient medication records and prepare commercially unavailable medications. Your training will include an externship that allows you to work with a licensed pharmacist, actually putting to work what you've learned in the classroom while gaining valuable on-the-job experience.

Therapeutic Massage - Associate's or Diploma

The therapeutic massage program at Virginia College will give you the physical and technical skills that are required by health care and personal service employers in a number of allied massage settings. You'll learn to perform a wide range of massage techniques ranging from relaxation skills and stress management to Swedish massage and neuromuscular therapy.
