Licensed limited medical radiographers (LMR) play an important role in the medical team by providing quality radiographs for a physician or radiologist. They may prepare patients for radiographic examinations by explaining the procedure, adjusting radiographic equipment for specific examination, placing the patient in the correct position and processing the radiograph. When patients visit a physician's office or medical care center, one of the first people to care for them is a medical assistant. During your interaction with patients your duties may include taking medical histories and vital signs, explaining treatment procedures, preparing patients for the physicians' examination and assisting the physician during the exam. You may also collect and prepare laboratory specimens, perform basic laboratory tests and administer medications as needed by the physician.

Medical coding for hospitals differs from physician office medical coding in that a special emphasis is placed on in-patient (hospital) coding. These extra hours of hospital-specific coursework are intended to prepare students for work in a hospital setting. Coders with a concentration in hospital medical coding have a wide variety of career choices, including hospitals, urgent/immediate care centers, doctor's offices, insurance companies and physician billing services.
