Fremont College occupies a newly-designed, modern facility in Cerritos, California, and has hired even more star-quality instructors to empower student learning. The difference between Fremont College and other schools is an innovative and effective learning model: Professional Action Learning Embedded with Industry™. This model of education effectively closes the gap between the classroom and the workforce, enabling students to immediately apply what they learn following graduation and over the course of their professional careers.

Our enhancements are best described by Fremont College's Chairman and CEO, Sabrina Kay: "This expansion initiates a paradigm shift in education for young adults to reach their full potential, and changes their lives for the better in rapidly-growing, in-demand industries."

Professional Action Learning Embedded with Industry

The hallmark of Fremont College's differentiation strategy is its Professional Action Learning Embedded with Industry (PAL) methodology. Developed over two decades in the education industry by Fremont College's Chairman and CEO Sabrina Kay, PAL is an educational technique emphasizing student interaction, open dialogue, and targeted pedagogical styles to foster incredible success within the classroom.

Visitors to Fremont's college campus will observe that all of its classrooms and labs physically demonstrate this learning method. For example, the placement of the students' chairs is reflective of the PAL methodology – all of the chairs face each other rather than the front of the room. PAL is a real-life demonstration of the belief that an instructor can deliver excellent and clear knowledge to a class of students, but until that knowledge is digested, debated, discussed, and taught back, it will never be ingrained into the student's consciousness, and in turn, never applied in the real world.

The following elements comprise the PAL system. Classes are divided into four or five segments, and each section is designed to improve student information retention and comprehension.

1 - Concept Presentation
2 - Questioning Dialogue
3 - Group Discussion
4 - Teach-back
5 - Industry Experience

By embedding the curricula with industry experience, students will get a firsthand view of their post-graduation careers. Students may demonstrate and practice their knowledge via community outreach activities, meet with guest speakers who work in their field, or might visit offices in their career fields of choice. Direct industry experience reinforces student knowledge, providing all Fremont College attendees with confidence in their professional interactions with the greater Cerritos, California, community.

One of the hottest new areas in education is massage therapy, and massage therapists with certification are needed in many alternative medicine practices. Fremont College offers classes that lead to a massage therapy certification--right in scenic Los Angeles County.

Fremont's dedicated faculty and staff take a different approach to massage education than other massage schools'. The 40-week program leads to a massage diploma, enabling the student to practice massage therapy in a variety of medical office and clinic settings. General education classes focusing on communication and interpersonal skills round out the massage therapy certification program, enabling students to seek success in the alternative medicine field.

Students will learn:

  • Swedish massage techniques
  • Full body massage and pregnancy massage techniques
  • Aromatherapy massage
  • Hot stone massage
  • Progressively complex concepts of human anatomy
  • Basics of holistic medicine and alternative medicine

Fremont's massage therapy program allows students to work with the latest massage furniture and equipment. Students learn how to apply massage oils, use hot stones, and interact with patients and clients on the massage table or massage chair.

Chinese massage and Swedish massage techniques can be used alone or in combination with other massage and holistic medicine practices to achieve total wellness of body and mind. Fremont has also recently added hydrotherapy skills. This relatively new alternative medicine practice of using water to treat illness, depression and other ailments has become very popular.

Associate's - Sports & Rehabilitation Therapy

Sports and rehabilitation therapists are in great demand in Los Angeles and other parts of Southern California. These versatile professionals help injured athletes and sports enthusiasts get back on their feet. Fremont College, an education and career training center located in Cerritos, California, offers an associate of science degree in sports and rehabilitation therapy. This health and movement-focused training program gives students a wide range of tools. The associate degree incorporates traditional medical skills such as massage therapy, anatomy, kinesiology with alternative medicine skill sets and range-of-motion and injury rehabilitation concepts and applications. Sports nutrition and wellness classes add a prevention-based component to the sports therapy degree and its various applications. Meanwhile, general education classes enforce reading comprehension, writing, and real-world skills that are necessary components of any massage or sports therapy career.

Classes will focus on concepts such as:

  • Exercise and wellness approaches to sports injuries
  • Treatments for depression and anxiety that are often side effects of a sports injury
  • Swedish massage techniques
  • Chinese massage therapy practices and acupressure techniques
  • Hydrotherapy treatments for sports injuries

Students will exit the sports rehabilitation and therapy program with an understanding of the human skeletal, muscular and nervous systems. They will understand human pathology, and will know how to diagnose and treat diseases through the study of the organ and lymph systems. They will learn how people move and how their skeletal systems and muscles facilitate different movements. These foundations in biological sciences will enable students to work with specific, more complex sports therapy and massage concepts.

The sports therapy associate of science degree is a good choice for individuals who have not yet experienced post-high school education or career training. It is also a degree that works for individuals who already hold associate or bachelor degrees, and perhaps some career experience - they can make sweeping career or midlife changes by breaking into sports therapy. Marketing and business skills, or previous healthcare skills and experience, can be beneficial to massage therapy and sports rehabilitation careers, too.

What is Sports and Rehabilitation Therapy?

The warm, dry climate of Southern California is a favorite for professional and Olympic athletes and weekend warriors. It is especially popular with outdoors-oriented athletes such as distance runners, baseball players, competitive climbers, and tennis pros. Vigorous training leads to injuries. Sports massage and other rehabilitation techniques can help athletes get back on their training regimens. Sports and rehabilitation therapy focuses on total-body well being, including sports nutrition, rest, and injury and illness prevention strategies. Different athletes have different injury prevention and well-being needs. Massage and rehabilitation therapists must have a complete tool box to conquer all of the athletic injury challenges that they face.

Fremont College's sports and rehabilitation therapy degree enables students to assess and treat various common sports ailments and injuries. Massage therapy techniques can be used, as can aromatherapy, hydrotherapy, and acupressure techniques. By understanding the biomechanics of the human body, students will better be able to determine the best course of action to take when treating sports injuries and other ailments. Classes in the biomechanics of injury, problem assessments training, and a topical course in skilled rehabilitation therapy help students understand and apply sports therapy and rehabilitation concepts in real life. Students will also participate in massage clinics, which will help them apply massage therapy and sports rehabilitation classroom theory to the therapy office or clinic.

Both the body and the mind must work together for an athlete to achieve maximum performance. Therefore, the psychology of an athlete is an important part of sports therapy. Some athletes might seek sports massage or massage therapy not because they need injury rehabilitation, but because they have mental blocks affecting athletic performance. Fremont's sports therapy and rehabilitation program includes a human behavior general education course. An emphasis on wellness concepts helps the sports massage therapist plan a course of treatment for performance anxiety or mental unrest. Massage therapy is an effective treatment for anxiety or depression impacting performance.

Therapists need more than just rehabilitation techniques to be successful. General education classes help students to be fully prepared for entry-level careers in sports medicine and rehabilitation therapy. Writing classes are of great importance since students must be able to comprehend and communicate in clear, concise English to be successful in their career field of choice. Classes in quantitative reasoning help students exercise their brains, so they have an expanded repertoire of problem-solving skills.

  • Get an education in popular sports massage and injury therapy techniques.
  • Learn how Swedish and Chinese massage therapies can be used to treat sports injuries.
  • Understand how to diagnose and treat physical and mental ailments affecting sports performance.
  • Make a major career change and embark upon a sports and massage therapy career.
