At Brown Mackie College — Ft. Wayne, you don't need to wait for a traditional "Fall Start." Because our students aren't always living "traditional" lives we offer new starts each month with day or evening classes that fit your schedule. Each class lasts one month. Biomedical Equipment Technology - Associate of Applied Science

The Biomedical Equipment Technology program is designed to prepare the student for a variety of positions in an industry that installs, inspects, repairs, and maintains medical equipment. It provides the student training in electronics technology with specialized emphasis on medical applications and computer systems technology. Coursework also focuses on anatomy and biology, engineering, and biomedical instrumentation. Students have an opportunity to receive a multidisciplinary skill set that is transferable to many career fields.

Graduates will be qualified to assess health and fitness levels, design, implement, and promote safe effective exercise programs for various populations, screen clients for contraindications to exercise, teach clients with medical complications healing methods, and sit for national certification exams.

Fitness trainers work directly with clients to assess their fitness levels and to help them set and reach their fitness goals. They help their clients gain confidence and strength while motivating them to better their physical health. Fitness trainers can work in gyms and health clubs, corporate fitness centers, country clubs, senior-living centers, universities, and resorts.

The Associate of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy Assistant program prepares graduates for entry-level employment, working under the direction of an occupational therapist. Students are trained to administer occupational therapy treatments to individuals who have lost functional abilities due to illness, injury or disease.

Course work combines lecture, laboratory and clinical experiences. General education elements of the program enhance students' communication and problem-solving skills to enhance their effectiveness in the occupational therapy profession. The program prepares the graduate for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) Certification Examination for Occupational Therapy Assistants.

Students receive a solid foundation in the areas of medical-surgical nursing, pediatrics, obstetrics, geriatrics and pharmacology. Graduates of this program are qualified to pursue LPN State Board licensure.

Surgical Technology - Associate of Applied Science

The associate of science degree program in Surgical Technology is designed to provide students with the required knowledge base and technical skills required to obtain entry-level employment in the field of surgical technology. To achieve this goal, the program curriculum provides study in general and specialty surgical procedures, principles of anesthesia, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology and surgical technology techniques. Additional coursework in general education helps students to grow professionally and develop the ability to assume leadership roles.
