Occupational Therapy Assistant - Associate Degree

Becoming an Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) means assisting people of all ages, who have varying abilities or handicaps, to become independent in their day-to-day activities. In the field, OTA collaborates with a registered Occupational Therapist and works independently with individual clients or groups. After successfully completing coursework and field, you are eligible to sit for the national examination to become a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant.

  • Learn to act as part of the rehabilitation team, collecting data needed for the patient’s initial evaluation, carrying out treatment plans, using technology to help people overcome disabilities and designing activities to help people reach their goals.

  • Work in traditional medical environments or in any setting where children, adults, or older people need to learn new ways to live satisfying and productive lives.
  • The Occupational Therapy Assistant Program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).

Surgical Technology - Associate Degree

Function as an integral part of the surgical team. Work in cooperation with surgeons and registered nurses, performing duties that are vital for the safety and care of surgical patients during operative procedures. Supervised clinical practice in surgical environments prepares the student for entry-level positions in such areas as hospital operating room department, obstetrical departments, surgical supply and/or processing departments, outpatient surgical centers, and surgeon office practices. In addition, the program prepares students for the National Certification Exam given by the Liaison Council on Certification for the Surgical Technologist (LCC-ST).

  • Theory and practice are integrated through the use of simulated laboratory experiences and 540 hours of actual hospital operating room experience.
  • Program includes study of the ethical and legal dimensions of the work and profession of the Surgical Technologist.
  • Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
  • Program was developed with the support and cooperation of the Hospital Association of Rhode Island.

Clinical Medical Assistant Technology - Associate Degree

Prepare for a career in a hospital, physician’s office, laboratory or any environment where health care is delivered. Obtain an equal balance of anatomy and physiology theory, clinical skills and administrative skills which will make you a well-rounded, sought-after professional Clinical Medical Assistant.

  • Learn Clinical Skills: Phlebotomy, ultrasound therapy, sterile technique, EKG’s and medication administration prepare you to deliver holistic patient care in various health care settings.
  • Learn Administrative Skills: Medical transcription, third party billing, and computerized word processing using software and electronic equipment used in the industry.
  • Work in your chosen field in an externship program before graduation using your learned abilities as a medical professional.
