The medical assistant is a trained professional member of the physician's staff. A career as a medical assistant is challenging and offers a variety of opportunities. There are career opportunities in public health facilities, hospitals, laboratories, blood banks, medical schools, research institutions, nursing homes and private practices. The expanded duties of a medical assistant vary from one facility to the next depending on the type of practice and work habits of the individuals. Upon successful completion of the program, the student is eligible to take the American Medical Technologists Registered Medical Assistant Exam (RMA). This nationally recognized certification entitles AMT-registered medical assistants to affiliate with that organization. Registration or certification requirements for taking and passing exams are not controlled by the school but by outside agencies and are subject to change without notice to the school. The school cannot guarantee that graduates will be eligible to take certification exams, regardless of the eligibility status upon enrollment. The BSRT degree is designed for the individual with an Associate's degree in Radiography or completion of a comparable certificate program. This degree program is designed to help prepare radiology professionals who are interested in advancement into healthcare management positions or gaining knowledge in advanced clinical modalities within the radiology profession. The objective of this program is to provide trained healthcare workers with the appropriate general education, didactic theory, hands-on skills and externship opportunity required for advancement into management or advanced radiology modalities. Radiologic Technology - Healthcare Management - Bachelor of Science (BSRT)Back to topAccording to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for radiologic technologists and technicians is expected to grow by 15 percent through the year 2016 as the healthcare industry expands.* Opportunities are available in all areas of healthcare, including family care, pediatrics, geriatrics, urgent care, home healthcare, and long-term care, especially for those with higher education within the profession. The BSRT degree program is designed to help prepare radiology professionals for advancement into healthcare management positions using general education, hands-on skills, skills in finance, supervision and human resource management, and instructional theory. An Associate's Degree in Radiography from an accredited institution and current employment in a healthcare setting is required in order to enroll in the BSRT program. Course work will be evaluated on a course by course basis and the student must have successfully completed the ARRT examination. In all cases, the general education core required for CTU bachelor's degrees must be met. Surgical Technology - Associate of Applied ScienceBack to topThe objective of the Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology degree program is to provide students with the appropriate general education, theory and hands-on skills to begin or enhance a career in surgical technology. The program is designed to prepare competent, entry-level surgical technologists in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills) and affective (behavior) learning domains and to help satisfy the need for surgical technologists in local and regional communities. The program also includes hands-on experience through clinical rotations in operating rooms at local areas hospitals.
