Massage Therapy

Would you like the skills to relieve patients of pain? The massage therapy program provides the basic knowledge, tools, ethics, and behaviors that will enable you to successfully practice as a massage therapist in a variety of health care settings. You will gain in-depth educational skills that increase your knowledge and develop specialized techniques of massage.

A balance of academic knowledge, technical expertise, clinical skills and manual dexterity can provide you with a competitive advantage in this ever-changing field. You will acquire a solid base of knowledge through instruction and hands-on learning in our well-rounded curriculum.

The massage therapist program is taught over a three-quarter period, with each quarter encompassing different courses of study.

First Quarter

  • General biology, medical terminology, and computer basics
  • Body systems
  • General psychology, customer service, and computer basics

Second Quarter

  • Introduction to massage and anatomy/physiology
  • Therapeutic massage
  • Deep tissue sculpting

Third Quarter

  • Sports massage
  • Traumatology
  • Personal fitness and nutrition

You will have the practical experience to obtain employment as a massage therapist in a number of health care settings, including medical and rehabilitation clinics, hospitals, and doctors' and chiropractors' offices. Opportunities also exist in health spas, hotels, fitness centers, sports organizations, tourist destinations, and cruise ships. There is the possibility of going into private practice as well.

Employment is expected to steadily grow over the next few years. There will be an increased demand for massage services for management of pain and prevention of physical disabilities from injury or disease.

Have you dreamed of starting a career in the medical field, but weren't sure where to begin? Consider the role of medical assistant, which in recent years has become an integral part of the health care arena. Medical assistants are trained in both administrative and clinical procedures, and are capable of filling a variety of rewarding positions.

Our education program is divided into learning units called modules. You must complete the modules in their entirety, in any sequence, to successfully complete this curriculum.

The learning modules of the Medical Assisting program encompass lecture, theory and laboratory work in the following areas:

  • Patient care and communication
  • Clinical assisting and pharmacology
  • Medical insurance, bookkeeping and health sciences
  • Cardiopulmonary and electrocardiography
  • Laboratory procedures
  • Endocrinology and reproduction
  • Therapeutic care

Upon successful completion of the modules, you are required to participate in a 160-hour externship. This program provides you with the opportunity to interact with patients and apply the principles and practices learned in the classroom.

You will be prepared to maintain the highest quality of patient care; take vital signs, run laboratory and diagnostic tests, all while utilizing your organization, communication and management skills. Gain employment in a hospital, clinic, doctor's office, nursing home, medical supply business, home health care agency, insurance company or pharmaceutical company.

Medical billing and its related occupations are among the fastest growing opportunities in the health care industry. Give yourself an advantage as more and more insurance companies, medical offices and clinics look to hire well-schooled and experienced professionals.

You will learn the basic concepts and procedures to perform the tasks involved in health insurance as well as insurance claim forms. You will also gain knowledge of basic coding definitions and how to apply those codes to medical documentation.

Pharmacy Technician

The pharmacy technician program prepares the student with both administrative and clinical skills for a position in retail, hospital, clinic and home IV facilities. The program provides the student with the theory and hands-on applications required to demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles and practices of pharmacy technology; recognize, spell, define and use appropriate medical terminology, words and abbreviations; use appropriate pharmacy skills; discuss and demonstrate how to work with pharmaceutical dosage forms; and show competency in performing pharmaceutical calculations.
