Medical Assisting
Working as a medical assistant can be an exciting and rewarding
career. With direct patient contact, you can play a part in their
treatment and well-being. If you are interested in starting a new
career in health care, or advancing in your current position,
this could be your opportunity to become an important member of a
medical team. A certificate from our medical assistant program
can allow you to apply for various entry-level positions as a
medical assistant, by providing the necessary clinical and
administrative knowledge and skills you will need.
Our program provides you a comprehensive curriculum and hands-on
training with medical equipment typically used in a medical
setting. The numerous courses offered can train you for specific
duties such as assisting the supervising physician with
administering injections, taking vital signs, recording EKGs,
assisting in minor surgical procedures, basic accounting
procedures, and fundamentals of charting and documentation.
Graduates may also perform venipuncture in a medical situation.
To enhance your career-based experience, you will also complete
an externship program at a local clinic, physician's office,
health maintenance organization, or other allied health facility.
Medical Billing and Coding Specialist
Medical billing is vital to the smooth functioning of the medical
office. Medical billers calculate the total amount due from a
patient, prepare invoices to be sent out, and follow up to ensure
that payment has been received. Medical Coding involves recording
designated codes in patients' medical records. The curriculum
includes classroom lectures and lab training in: health insurance
including paperwork, legal issues, and insurance fraud and abuse;
dental claims; general office procedures, including use of office
machines, keyboarding and computer applications; and medical
coding and terminology. Upon graduation, you will be able to seek
entry-level employment in doctors' offices, clinics, hospitals,
home health care services, nursing and residential care
facilities, and insurance companies.
