Wheeling Jesuit University – Distance Learning

Wheeling Jesuit University is a small, private, Catholic liberal arts institution located in the northern panhandle of West Virginia. With a Division of Adult and Continuing Education dedicated to serving the non-traditional learner, Wheeling Jesuit University provides unique formats, programs, delivery methods and specialized services necessary for earning a degree as a working adult student. Accelerated programs, online courses and programs, year-round and evening schedules all provide avenues for completing your degree while working full-time.

Students in WJU distance learning programs benefit from full-time support from a dedicated distance education department, an online library service and personal contact from faculty experienced in developing and offering online courses. Technical assistance is available through the WJU distance learning office which hosts a toll-free phone number and extended in-office hours to serve online student needs.

Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Leadership

The Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Leadership distance learning program is designed to advance the careers of working allied health professionals with diplomas or associate degrees who want to position themselves for leadership roles in the medical and health services fields.

Position Yourself for Leadership in Healthcare

Healthcare Leadership students will have many opportunities to learn from each other so that they may begin to understand the challenges faced by each specialty through interactive problem-solving and online discussions with each other and the instructor. Each major course will give an appreciation of the complexity of the entire healthcare system and its component parts. Along with a liberal arts core, the program includes these major requirements:

  • Comprehensive Assessment
  • Pathophysiology
  • Hospital Trends and Issues
  • Management for Healthcare
  • Dynamics of Group and Organizational Behavior
  • Marketing for Healthcare
  • Education Methods for Use with Preceptor, Patient and Community
  • Educational Technology
  • Introduction to Research
  • Literature Review and Proposal

Finish Your Degree in as Little as Two Years

Students who transfer a number of liberal arts core courses and who enroll part-time in two to three courses each term throughout the program may complete the program in as little as two years while still maintaining a full-time job.

Complete Courses Online and in Your Community

Students meet for one weekend at the beginning of every term to begin each class. The remaining course work is delivered online and through supplemental materials such as CD-rom and video as well as by completing community service projects.

Gone are the days of juggling two or three days or nights per week driving to campus along with the real demands of work and family life. The desire to return to school to earn a bachelor’s degree can finally be met with the blending of a traditional Jesuit liberal arts education and the accessibility of the Internet.
