Virginia College has a long history of offering new direction to its students.

The College was founded by the Atlantis Group, Inc., in 1983 and then purchased by Career Futures, Inc., in 1989. The College opened its first branch campus in Birmingham, Alabama, in February 1992, and this became the main campus in 1995. In April 1993, the College opened its second branch campus in Huntsville, Alabama. In 1997, Virginia College received senior college recognition from the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools(ACICS) which now accredits all programs at the school's campuses.

Associate's - Medical Office Management

Medical Office Administrators perform both administrative and clinical duties, reporting directly to an office manager, physician, or other health practitioner. Students learn to work closely with doctors and other support personnel as well as how to use medical terminology, medical office procedures, and insurance coding to prepare for a career in this growing, specialized field. Associate's - Nursing

Associate's - Surgical Technology

Picture yourself as a valuable member of the operating room team! As a Surgical Technologist, you will work closely with the surgeon, anesthesiologist, nurse anesthetist, and registered nurse to deliver integral patient care before, during, and after surgery. As a student at Virginia College, you'll have the chance to learn the proper application of sterile surgical techniques and modern operating room technology so you'll be able to provide optimum patient care. Classroom theory and laboratory hands-on training are combined with clinical and externship experiences to give you the knowledge and skill you need to be successful in this vital career field.

Diploma - Medical Assistant

Medical Assistants perform both administrative and clinical duties, reporting directly to an office manager, physician, or other health practitioner. Your training will focus on examining room procedures, obtaining vital signs and medical histories, performing routine laboratory procedures, sterilizing and maintaining equipment, and the proper techniques for administering medications as directed by the physician. You'll also learn to handle administrative duties.

In addition to training from instructors with real-world experience, you will also complete an externship in a physician's office, clinic or related healthcare facility under the supervision of a physician, nurse, or health services professional.

Diploma - Medical Billing and Coding

Medical Billing & Coding focuses on the fundamentals of medical office protocol with specialized training in the areas you will need for a job in this growing field. As a Virginia College student, you'll be prepared for entry-level positions in the medical field related to reimbursement procedures. You'll learn the fundamentals of medical office protocol and get specialized training in Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), International Classification of Diseases (ICD), and Health Care Financing Administration Common Procedural Coding System (HCPCS).

Diploma - Pharmacy Technician

Ready for a career where you can make a difference. The Pharmacy Technician program will prepare you for an exciting career, supporting licensed pharmacists by assisting during patient consultation, counter dispensing operations, and prescription preparation. You'll learn to stock pharmaceutical inventories, maintain and computerize patient medication records, prepare commercially unavailable medications, perform aseptic technique, calculate and prepare IV's for administering to patients, and the proper procedures for hazardous compounding. Your training will include an externship that allows you to work with a licensed pharmacist, actually putting to work what you've learned in the classroom while gaining valuable on-the-job experience.
