Sanford-Brown College - Grand Rapids

At Sanford-Brown, we are in the business of career education. That makes not only you but also the employers we work with our customers. We care about you and your future, and your future employer's needs. That is the Sanford-Brown difference.

We are dedicated to providing academic excellence. If you're looking for an exciting and rewarding career in today's expanding fields, we can help you get there.

At Sanford-Brown, our approach is:

Fast

At Sanford-Brown, we condense your study into a short-term program enabling you to customize your skills rapidly and successfully to the specific needs of a future work setting. Unlike traditional institutions, we enable adults to complete some programs of study in as little as nine months. Generally, classes start every five weeks, so you can get started quickly with convenient day and evening classes to meet your needs.

Focused

At Sanford-Brown, your studies focus primarily on the essential concepts and skills most employers look for in entry-level employees. Our goal is to provide you with the practical information and experience you need to get your foot in the door. We avoid requiring you to take courses that are not directly supportive of your employment objective.

Hands-On

Technology plays a major role in all the professions for which we educate our students. That's why we use industry-current tools to help deliver your education more effectively. During the hands-on component you will use industry-oriented equipment to gain experience applying your knowledge.

Associate's - Cardiovascular Sonography

Detecting heart disease and other heart conditions is a major area of the healthcare field, and it involves a team of healthcare professionals. Cardiovascular technicians are key players on any heart healthcare team. Sanford-Brown’s cardiovascular technology program is designed to prepare you for career opportunities as a Cardiovascular Sonographer/Technician where you can be an important part of that healthcare team.

Could you be a cardiovascular technician? Learn how to check the heart for subtle differences between healthy and diseased areas; judge if the images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes; and send images to the doctor to view. You can also learn how to explain the procedure to patients, record additional medical history, select appropriate equipment settings and perform numerous other duties essential to this vital area of healthcare.

Associate's - Medical Assisting

Medical assisting practitioners serve as members of the health care delivery team performing administrative and clinicalprocedures. Administrative duties may include scheduling and receiving patients, preparing and maintaining medical records, handling telephone calls and writing correspondence, and managing finances. Clinical duties may include asepsis and infection control, patient histories and vital signs, first aid and CPR, assisting the physician with examinations and treatments, collecting and processing specimens, performing selected diagnostic tests, and administering medications as directed by the physician and as permitted by state law. The medical assisting program prepares students for entry-level positions in the field. The objective is to develop in them the intellectual and professional qualities desired in effective medical assistants by providing a strong theoretical foundation and by developing the ability to perform clinical and office procedures. This program provides an educational opportunity for students hoping to pursue a career in healthcare as multi-skilled practitioners in a physician's office or other healthcare setting and is not a preparation for other healthcare professions including nursing.

Associate's - Veterinary Technology

Americans spend over $41 billion* a year on their pets, so it's no wonder they want them to have quality veterinary care. Vets rely on professional Veterinary Technicians to help them provide that care. If you love animals and would like to play a key role in promoting their health and vitality, this program could be for you.

Learn to take patient histories, assist in surgery, perform dental prophylaxis and many other duties, including drawing blood for testing. We also stress the importance of focusing on the emotional as well as physical wellbeing of animals and communicating with "pet parents." If you are considering a vet tech degree or certification, we invite you to learn more about Sanford-Brown's veterinary technician training programs.

Accreditation/Certification Information Disclosure

Accreditation is a voluntary process which may be undertaken by schools to demonstrate compliance with specific standards designed to indicate a level of education quality. SBC is institutionally accredited (accredited in total) by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS), a national accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education (DOE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). This indicates that SBC substantially meets or exceeds the stated criteria of education quality established by ACICS, and approved by the DOE and CHEA. This recognition of institutional accreditation by ACICS entitles SBC to offer Title IV Financial Assistance to students who qualify.

An additional form of accreditation that a school may undertake to obtain is a specific, individual accreditation of certain programs (programmatic accreditation). Institutional accreditation is not the same as or a substitution for programmatic accreditation. Although programmatic accreditation is not required for employment in many cases, the existence of programmatic accreditation is a further indication that a program meets the standards of the profession, and may therefore indirectly enhance employment opportunities. Also, in some cases, programmatic accreditation will allow the graduates of the accredited program to sit for some credentialing exams immediately upon graduation without any requirement of work experience.
