The Omaha School of Massage and Healthcare's (OSMH) mission is to consistently pursue academic excellence by exposing students to a well-balanced program that incorporates theory, physiology, anatomy, complimentary courses and practical experiences that are pivotal to personal and professional growth.
The Omaha School of Massage and Healthcare is a 10,000 square foot facility, located in Omaha, Nebraska. OSMH is located in Southwest Omaha within close proximity of many apartment complexes making it convenient to find housing close to the school.
The facility is comprised of a variety of areas. There are four instructional classrooms, eight private therapy rooms, a spa room, a hydrotherapy room, a steam shower and five administrative offices. The massage clinic classroom is equipped with a variety of massage tables as well as massage chairs.
The student lounge/kitchen area houses a sink, refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven and various vending machines. Each student is issued a personal locker in the locker room and a mailbox.
We maintain a reference library accessible to all students and alumni. Situated in the library are computers that students use for Internet research or for typing and printing papers for their classes. The library also provides books, pamphlets, video and audiotapes pertaining to the field of massage and related subjects.
It is our desire to promote natural and holistic health through massage and bodywork along with complimentary alternative therapies. We provide instruction and a thorough working knowledge of various therapeutic massage techniques, function and structure of the human body, and development of professional habits.
It is the educational objective of the Omaha School of Massage and Healthcare to provide the student with the skills and knowledge for an entry level position in the field of massage therapy. This is accomplished through a 1000 clock hour program. The course of study is approved and accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology.
The goal of the medical billing and insurance program is to provide the student with a thorough understanding of the content of the medical record as well as extensive training in anatomy, physiology, disease processes, and medical terminology. This program will provide the student with the knowledge and understanding to analyze medical records and assign codes to classify diagnoses and procedures while applying the principles of professional and ethical conduct. The program will prepare the student for an entry-level position as a medical coder in a hospital, clinic, physician's office, or other health care facility. The complimenting general studies education in the associate-level degree will prepare students for greater career opportunities as skills such as critical thinking, communication, mathematics, and problem solving will be developed.
The introduction of students to the overall operation of the physician's office is the basic objective of this program. Students are trained to assist the physician in the examination room, to perform routine laboratory procedures and to handle financial records, correspondence, insurance forms and other administrative functions. Our ultimate goal is to prepare students to successfully gain entry-level employment as a Medical Assistant. The complimenting general studies education in the associate-level degree will prepare students for greater career opportunities as skills such as critical thinking, communication, mathematics, and problem solving will be developed.
This program prepares students with the necessary skills and academic knowledge for entry level or management training positions in health information management with a general understanding of business principles and a thorough understanding of the content of the medical record and extensive training in anatomy, physiology, disease processes, and medical terminology. The program provides the student with the knowledge and understanding to manage medical records systems and personnel engaged in the analysis of medical records and the assignment of codes to classify diagnoses and procedures. As this program is accredited by the Commission on Health Informatics and Information Management (www.CAHIIM.org), graduates will be eligible to sit for the Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential offered through AHIMA.
Well-trained medical billing and insurance coding professionals make sure insurance companies and patients are billed correctly for the health care they received from a provider. Insurance coders also learn a universal code system that they then use to label each health care procedure, greatly simplifying this billing process. This career is perfect for the detail-oriented person who has an interest in healthcare. The 12-month diploma will prepare students for entry into this field.
Medical assistants perform administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, optometrists, and other doctors running smoothly. Clinical duties may include taking medical histories and recording vital signs, giving injections, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, tending to wounds, and assisting the physician during patient examinations. This 12-month program will provide the academic knowledge and hands-on skills required for entry into this field.
