NAU's Associate of Applied Science degree in Health Information Technology (HIT) is an excellent career choice if you see yourself working in the in-demand health care field, but not necessarily directly with patients. As a graduate of this program, it will be your job to assemble patients' health information, making sure that patients' initial medical charts are complete, that all forms are completed and properly identified and authenticated, and that all necessary information is input into the computer. Ultimately, the goal is to help consumers gather all of their health information in one place so they can thoroughly understand it and share it securely with their health care providers so they get the care that best fits their individual needs. Graduates of the program are eligible to take the examination offered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) to become a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
The health care management bachelor's degree program is designed to provide working professionals with the necessary skills to become effective managers and leaders in the fast growing health care industry. The admission requirements for this program include a balance of previous education and work experience to assure the student's success in this area of study.
