Ultrasound Technology involves the usage of sound waves to produce black and white images of the human body. The sound waves are produced with no radiation, and is a safe non-invasive diagnostic technique used to evaluate soft tissue.
The program will enable the technician to competently assess the patient prior to the examination, perform a diagnostic evaluation of soft tissue, assess hemodynamics, and produce preliminary diagnosis reports for the physician. Our Ultrasound Program provides the students with the latest technological advances in Ultrasound utilizing a hands-on approach with over 156 scanning hours in our lab and 126 hours of didactics with an additional 800 hour clinical externship session. Ultrasound utilizes a two-dimensional format to create black and white images of soft tissue. In recent years a three-dimensional format has been instituted. Our systems include both the two and three-dimensional formats. The usage of ultrasound technology is increasing due to its lower cost and non-invasive nature to produce accurate internal images of the varying body systems.
Upon completion of the program the students are eligible to sit for the Cardiovascular Credentialing International Certification of Cardiovascular Technician (CCT). Upon completion of the Clinical Externship the students are eligible to sit for the Cardiovascular Credentialing International Registry Examination to become a Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS). We offer assistance with student memberships to the following sonographic organizations: Society of Vascular Ultrasound (SVU), Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (SDMS), American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM), and the Society of Vascular Technologists (SVT).
