Founded as a computer programming school in 1965 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, by Henry and Suzanne Herzing, Herzing University has grown from a modest classroom to a progressive leader in career education. Herzing University assures that a student enrolled in a Bachelor's of Science degree program can complete the program requirements and earn the degree in three years, or Herzing University will provide, at no tuition cost to the student, any additional courses required to complete the program. Courses in the last four semesters are usually offered in the evening. (Subject to conditions, see current Herzing University catalog for details. Not available at all campuses.)

This Associate degree program incorporates the general education requirements required for this level of degree with the foundation health information management (HIM) courses. The Associate is 64 credits and can be completed in 16–24 months. Study topics include the planning, collection, and analysis of patient data in a secure manner.
This program will prepare students with the necessary skills and academic knowledge for entry-level positions in medical insurance coding and office administration within the health care industry. Courses include Medical Terminology, Medical Billing and Insurance Procedures, Medical Office Administration, Law and Ethics, Anatomy and Physiology, Diseases of the Human Body as well as general education, office support and personal development courses. Potential careers include medical coder, coding specialist, medical office assistant, health information administrator, billing and coding technician.
The introduction of students to the overall operation of the physician's office is the basic objective of this program. Students are trained to assist the physician in the examination room, to perform routine laboratory procedures and to handle financial records, correspondence, insurance forms and other administrative functions. Our ultimate goal is to prepare students to successfully gain entry-level employment as a Medical Assistant.
This program is designed to prepare students with the necessary skills and academic knowledge for entry-level office positions in the health care industry. Career opportunities may be in areas such as the medical office/clinic, hospitals, long term care facilities and other health care office settings.
This program prepares students with the necessary skills and academic knowledge for entry-level or management training positions in health information management. These positions require a general understanding of business principles, a thorough understanding of the content of medical records, as well as extensive training in anatomy, physiology, disease processes and medical terminology. The program provides the student with the knowledge and understanding to manage medical records systems and personnel engaged in the analysis of medical records and the assignment of codes to classify diagnoses and procedures.
