At Fortis College, the Medical Office Administration program train students to acquire the skills and capabilities in a variety of medical/dental office administration procedures, and the skills necessary for entry-level employment in a medical or dental practice. The medical and dental office administration skills include bookkeeping, billing and collection, records management, patient data collection, keyboarding, transcription, word processing, appointment scheduling, written correspondence and telephone techniques. Upon completion of the training, students will be qualified to assume entry-level positions as a medical/dental office assistant, medical secretary, medical biller/collector, and insurance claims processor performing the medical/dental office duties described above.
Fortis' dental assistant program is a communication-based approach to training an essential part of the dental staff. Students receive training in both chair side procedures as well as administrative duties.
Medical Assistants (MA) perform hands-on clinical care together with physicians and mid-level health care practitioners. The Medical Assistant is frequently the first person in the physician's office that a patient speaks with and may be the last person the patient interacts with following their exam, procedure or treatment. Medical practices depend on skilled, personable Medical Assistants as an integral link to their patients. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, "Medical Assistant is expected to be the fastest growing occupation over the 2002-2012 period." Graduates of this program are eligible to sit for the Registered Medical Assistant Certification Exam. Job opportunities include hospitals, clinics, sports medicine facilities and insurance companies.
Our Medical X-Ray Technology program is designed to provide a learning experience based upon hands-on, practical training that prepares a student in a variety of entry-level medical skills. As a student of our X-ray technology program, you are given the opportunity to learn the competencies required of a basic x-ray technician: clinical skills in EKG, exam set up, electronic health records, and other areas used in a physician's office, walk-in clinic, or hospital/clinic setting.
Graduates of this skill-intensive program will learn the methods, technology and instrumentation needed to assist surgeons in the operating room.
