The Radiologic Technology program provides students the knowledge and skills to perform the duties required for entry-level employment in the field. Radiologic Technology use ionizing radiation to provide diagnostic radiographic images (x-rays) of tissues, organs, bones and vessels in the body. This position is an important member of the healthcare team, and works closely with physicians to provide patient care. We offer comprehensive, rigorous training in all aspects of radiography, enabling you to obtain the skills you need for an entry-level radiography job. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree, and are eligible to sit for the A.R.R.T. national radiographer examination and seek employment as a member of the healthcare team.
The objective of the Medical Assisting program is to provide the graduate with the knowledge and ability to perform various administrative and clinical procedures, in a medical office, clinic or health care facility at the entry-level. The student is trained to carry out clinical procedures such as recording vital signs, conducting routine lab procedures, basic diagnostic procedures, EKGs and phlebotomy. Administratively, the student is trained in front office procedures such as greeting patients, computer operation, filing, billing, scheduling and insurance claims.
This program focuses on training students on the skills required for medical billing and coding through hands-on exercises, lectures, demonstrations, and group and individual projects. Students become familiar with the daily operations of the medical office environment, medical terminology, current billing procedures, implementing procedures and diagnostic codes, basic bookkeeping and the legal aspects surrounding the medical office. Students will also be accurate typists (35 wpm minimum), use their basic knowledge of computer and medical software as well as interpret insurance rules and regulations. They will access information via the internet, understand billing methods and the billing cycle to generate insurance claims accurately as well as have a clear understanding of administrative operations, the importance of obtaining and locating proper patient information, and how information must be documented.
We will focus on the financial components necessary to submit a clean claim and be reimbursed within a reasonable amount of time. We will have our students up-to-date on the various insurance types and coverage as well as insurance terminology. Students will study the billing process in both manual and electronic form.
These skills will enable the graduate, upon completion of required coursework, to further develop his or her career as a medical biller and coder through a 160-hour externship in a clinic, laboratory, physician's office, hospital or other setting that employs medical billing and coding personnel.
The Associate Degree in Medical Business and Clinical Specialist program provides graduates the knowledge and hands-on skills to perform competently in a variety of entry-level medical positions. Students receive training in front office records management, medical insurance billing and coding, patient records and clinical skills relating to direct patient care. Students will learn the proper procedures to answer telephones, greet patients, update and file patient medical records, complete insurance and referral forms, handle correspondence, schedule appointments, arrange for hospital admissions and laboratory services, handle medical prescriptions, coordinate meetings with medical representatives and handle billing and bookkeeping.
Upon completion of the program requirements, graduates will be awarded an Associate Degree in Medical Business and Clinical Specialist. This program normally takes 80 weeks to complete.
The Medical X-Ray and Clinical Services program is designed to provide a learning experience based upon hands-on, practical training that prepares a student in both X-Ray and Medical Assisting skills. The students are given the opportunity to learn the competencies required of a basic x-ray technician such as clinical skills in EKG, exam set up, phlebotomy, and other areas used in a physician's office, walk-in clinic, or hospital/clinic setting. Students will also obtain training in Pharmacy skills, in addition to focused communication training including Spanish communications for health professionals.
The Surgical Technologist program is designed to instruct in all phases of surgical technology. Upon completion, graduates can effectively work as a surgical technologist, with and under the supervision of surgeons or registered nurses and become an integral part of the team providing care to patients during the crucial periods of surgery. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistic's Occupational Handbook, Employment of surgical technologists is expected to grow 24 percent between 2006 and 2016, much faster than the average for all occupations, as the volume of surgeries increases. The number of surgical procedures is expected to rise as the population grows and ages.
The Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) program trains graduates to work in hospitals and out patient surgical facilities. The Sterile Processing Technician is able to identify, handle, clean, assemble, test and package hundreds of different surgical instruments. Training provides an understanding of how microbiology and infection control techniques relate to successful outcomes in the hospital setting. The program includes classroom studies, practice in a lab setting and hands-on experiences in real world externships. Program graduates are prepared to sit for national certification as a Central Sterile Processing Technician.
