Associate's in Medical Assisting

The objective of the Medical Assisting program is to provide the graduate with the knowledge and ability to perform various administrative and clinical procedures, in a medical office, clinic or health care facility at the entry-level. The student is trained to carry out clinical procedures such as recording vital signs, conducting routine lab procedures, basic diagnostic procedures, EKGs and phlebotomy. Administratively, the student is trained in front office procedures such as greeting patients, computer operation, filing, billing, scheduling and insurance claims.

Associate's in Medical Billing and Coding

This program focuses on training students on the skills required for medical billing and coding through hands-on exercises, lectures, demonstrations, and group and individual projects. Students become familiar with the daily operations of the medical office environment, medical terminology, current billing procedures, implementing procedures and diagnostic codes, basic bookkeeping and the legal aspects surrounding the medical office. Students will also be accurate typists (35 wpm minimum), use their basic knowledge of computer and medical software as well as interpret insurance rules and regulations. They will access information via the internet, understand billing methods and the billing cycle to generate insurance claims accurately as well as have a clear understanding of administrative operations, the importance of obtaining and locating proper patient information, and how information must be documented.

We will focus on the financial components necessary to submit a clean claim and be reimbursed within a reasonable amount of time. We will have our students up-to-date on the various insurance types and coverage as well as insurance terminology. Students will study the billing process in both manual and electronic form.

These skills will enable the graduate, upon completion of required coursework, to further develop his or her career as a medical biller and coder through a 160-hour externship in a clinic, laboratory, physician's office, hospital or other setting that employs medical billing and coding personnel.

Diploma in Dental Assisting

Fortis' dental assistant program is a communication-based approach to training an essential part of the dental staff. Students receive training in both chair side procedures as well as administrative duties.

Diploma in Medical X-Ray Technolgy

Our Medical X-Ray Technology program is designed to provide a learning experience based upon hands-on, practical training that prepares a student in a variety of entry-level medical skills. As a student of our X-ray technology program, you are given the opportunity to learn the competencies required of a basic x-ray technician: clinical skills in EKG, exam set up, electronic health records, and other areas used in a physician's office, walk-in clinic, or hospital/clinic setting.
