Convenient Scheduling with One Course a Month

At Brown Mackie College, you don’t need to wait for a traditional “Fall Start.” Because our students aren’t always living “traditional” lives we offer new starts each month with day or evening classes that fit your schedule. Each class lasts one month. There’s no need to divide your time and energy between coursework and exams for multiple courses. We keep the focus on one course, one subject at a time to help you succeed.

Our programs are practical and skill based. Our goal is to prepare you to pursue an entry-level position in the field of your study. Our classes and coursework integrate real world experiences to give you the technical skills and the professional approach you’ll need to enter the workforce.

Brown Mackie College — Akron students pursue their degrees in a city that has much to offer – the City of Invention – Akron, Ohio. The College is located just west of downtown Akron and is convenient to Interstate 77. Akron has easy access to a number of other major roadways and two airports.

Associate's - Health Care Administration

The associate's degree in health care administration prepares students to understand the essential components of managerial and organizational support in the health care industry. Students will learn how various health care systems operate and the multiple aspects of the field. At the same time, they will receive hands-on training in the administrative facets of health care services for the general public.

Graduates of this program will be prepared for entry-level positions in:

  • Health care insurance offices
  • Home health care agencies
  • Public health settings
  • Other health care related organizations

Associate's - Medical Assisting

The Associate of Applied Science in Medical Assisting program prepares graduates to work under the direction of physicians in a private practice or medical setting. Students develop a solid foundation in communication and problem-solving skills through general education course work.

A diploma program is also available in medical assisting.

Associate's - Occupational Therapy Assistant

The Occupational Therapy Assistant program prepares graduates for entry-level employment, working under the direction of an occupational therapist. Students are trained to administer occupational therapy treatments to individuals who have lost functional abilities due to illness, injury, or disease. Coursework combines lecture, laboratory, and clinical experiences. General Education elements of the program enhance students' communication and problem-solving skills to enhance their effectiveness in the occupational therapy profession.

The program prepares the graduate for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) Certification Examination for Occupational Therapy Assistants. Associate's - Pharmacy Technology

Students in the pharmacy technology associate's degree program learn how to work with and under the direction of pharmacists in an office or other medical setting.

The program curriculum delves into studies in:

  • Pharmacy procedures
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Medical terminology
  • Medical administrative practices

In addition, general education and business classes help students to grow professionally.

Associate's - Surgical Technology

The Associate of Science degree program in Surgical Technology is designed to provide students with the required knowledge base and technical skills required to obtain entry-level employment in the field of surgical technology.

To achieve this goal, the program curriculum provides study in:

  • General and specialty surgical procedures
  • Principles of anesthesia
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Medical terminology
  • Surgical technology techniques

Additional course work in general education helps students to grow professionally and develop the ability to assume leadership roles.

Associate's - Veterinary Technology

The Veterinary Technology program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills leading to entry-level employment in a variety of veterinary clinical settings and related fields. Graduates of this program will be prepared to provide a wide range of clinical skills including animal patient care, laboratory procedures, medical imaging, anesthesia administration and monitoring, and surgical assistance for a variety of domestic animals.

Bachelor's - Health Care Management

The Bachelor's in Health Care Management is designed to accommodate the needs and interests of students from a variety of backgrounds. Courses provide a solid foundation for varied health care careers. The program also incorporates an externship that offers students real-world experience within health care facilities that may include hospitals, nursing homes, ambulatory care facilities, physician practices, and pharmaceutical and medical equipment companies.

Diploma - Medical Assistant

The Medical Assistant program is designed to provide graduates with the skills necessary to obtain entry-level employment in a clinical and/or administrative medical setting. The program is designed to prepare graduates for entry-level positions under the direct supervision of a physician or medical office manager through coursework in medical office administration, clinical procedures, and pharmacology, as well as in business principles and computer operations.

Diploma - Medical Coding and Billing for Healthcare

The Diploma in Medical Coding & Billing provides students with the skills necessary to seek entry-level employment in the medical business office setting. This program prepares students to analyze information from patient records and combine it with knowledge of insurance reimbursement and coding guidelines to optimize physician payments.

Medical record coders and health information technicians specialize in coding patient records for health insurance purposes. They assign a code to each diagnosis and procedure. These technicians also are responsible for making sure that patient charts and forms are complete and accurate, so they regularly communicate with healthcare professionals to clarify or obtain information.

This program is comprised of 48 credit hours of study. It offers students courses on:

  • The fundamentals of anatomy and physiology.
  • Automated scheduling and billing procedures, as well as fundamental accounting, office management, and correspondence.
  • The rules for computerized coding systems and how to apply them to code patient diagnoses and procedures.

Diploma - Practical Nursing

The Diploma program in Practical Nursing balances classroom instruction with clinical experience. Students receive a solid foundation in the areas of:

  • Medical-surgical nursing
  • Pediatrics
  • Obstetrics
  • Geriatrics
  • Pharmacology

Graduates of this program are qualified to pursue LPN State Board licensure.
