The Health Information Management concentration is considered a degree completion concentration, and will require a student to have successfully completed an associate's degree or diploma in medical billing and coding, health information management or be certified practitioner in a related field.
As a completion program, the concentration prepares students to enter management and administration realms in healthcare/business setting and serves to enhance the knowledge and skills previously acquired or of those already employed in practical field.
Students pursuing this concentration will be able to focus their studies on the maintenance and care of health data and records. A Healthcare Information Administrator will apply their training in medical terminology, healthcare management, law, ethics, policy, and current issues to provide oversight of health care data collection and reporting systems to assure integrity and availability of the information maintained. The field of health information management supports interactive communication among those in the healthcare industry to improve health and healthcare delivery.
The study of medical terminology, healthcare marketing, management, law, ethics, policy, and contemporary issues along with customer service, risk management and patient safety are essential for success in this field. Strategic planning and Customer Service are areas of interest to these students, as it combines effective business management and supervision, while planning and controlling the functions of a health related organization.
The medical Imaging Management in the BBA and HCA BPS is considered a degree completion concentration. Students must have completed a medical imaging program and/or be licensed/registered in a medical imaging field. Students will transfer in credit hours for concentration and complete liberal arts and sciences and Healthcare Administration core requirements. This concentration combines the understanding of business operations with a emphasis on the management of imaging technologies.
As with Health Information management, the concentration prepares students to enter management and administration realms in healthcare/business setting and serves to enhance the knowledge and skills previously acquired or of those already employed in practical field.
Medical Imaging addresses many technologies to include but not limited to diagnostic x-rays such as ultrasound or sonography, CT (computerized tomographic) scans, and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). A path to a management career in this field begins with understanding one of the most drastic changes in the field that impacts managers, the move to digital technology. The Medical Practice Management concentration is considered a degree completion concentration, and requires a student to have successfully completed an allied health related associate's degree or diploma program or be licensed/certified in an allied health field.
Students pursuing this concentration will be able to focus on the "how-to" for delivering high quality care, increasing patients' satisfaction and improving medical practices' profitability. As changes in healthcare delivery systems continue to evolve, medical practice operations will also change, requiring new strategies. Medical Practice Management addresses strategies for fiscal management, marketing, information technology, legal and tax issues, benefits and compensation, office operations, coding, and human resources that practice administrators, practice managers face on a daily basis.
The four-year program in Healthcare Administration leading to the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree emphasizes an understanding of underlying business principles and their application to healthcare environment. The curriculum is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and competencies necessary to successfully manage healthcare organizations and services. The program combines a solid core of business, healthcare and general education courses. It includes a unique cluster of coursework directed at the health services industry, while also including a wide range of business topics such as accounting, budgeting, finance, law and personnel/human resource management. In addition, this program integrates management information systems into healthcare management in order to provide graduates with competitive advantages in preparing for employment in the healthcare industry.
