Many veterinary medicine associations and organizations offer support and opportunities for veterinary technicians, and some of them are listed below.

In addition, you can contact a veterinary medicine practitioner in your area or a local veterinary society for more insight and information about this profession. You can also contact an accredited veterinary technician school to arrange to talk with a counselor and visit the campus.

 

American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA)

What they do: AAHA is a national organization assisting medical professionals in networking and continued education. This organization is tailored specifically for animal hospitals and veterinary medicine.

American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB)

What they do: The AAVSB is an association of veterinary technicians that provides a centralized depository of data (such as exam scores, disciplinary actions, etc.). AAVSB owns and operates the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE). In addition to exam information, they offer a very useful tool on their website to help you find the veterinary agency in your state.

American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA)

What they do: AVMA is the national, non-profit, membership organization dedicated to advancing the veterinary medicine profession and improving animal and human health. AVMA is also the nationally recognized organization and accrediting body for school programs across the county. AVMA has bestowed their accreditation on over 125 United States vet tech programs that meet their high quality standards.

National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA)

What they do: NAVTA is an veterinary technician organization promoting the profession of veterinary technology. Members of NAVTA enjoy cross-state networking opportunities, continuing education and career development. You are eligible for a NAVTA membership during school, if you are enrolled full-time.
