In 2007, the Canadian Pharmacists Association initiated a survey* to find out demographic information about pharmacy technicians. According to their findings, here are some details about the Canadian pharmacy technician workforce:

  • About 43 percent of pharmacy technicians worked in hospitals and health care facilities, 37 percent worked in pharmacy chain stores, and 16 percent worked in independent pharmacies.
  • There is a wide range of education levels among pharmacy technicians: 16 percent have only a high school diploma, 20 percent have some university education, and 62 percent attended community or technical college.
