Taking the NBCOT Exam

In order to ensure that practicing occupational therapists meet the high standards necessary to help clients, the NBCOT oversees the certification process for professional occupational therapists. The mission of the NBCOT is to "provide a world-class standard for certification of occupational therapy practitioners."

Although NBCOT certification is separate from state licensure, passing the exam is an important part of obtaining the necessary credentials to qualify for occupational therapist jobs.

Successful completion of the NBCOT exam results in the title of registered occupational therapist (OTR).
