In addition to an undergraduate degree, radiologists complete four years of medical school, a year-long internship and a four-year residency. To start in the field as a radiologic technologist, however, you'll only need an undergraduate degree, with no additional school required.

Nobody wants to find out they aren't interested in a career after pouring a lot of time and money into their education. Working as a radiologic technologist can give you a first-hand look at the profession before deciding to go to medical school to become a radiologist. As a radiologic technologist, you'll work directly with patients, taking the x-rays, MRIs and other tests that radiologists use to diagnose and treat patients.

It will also help you build relationships with radiologists and other medical staff who can provide recommendations based on your real-world work experience.
